I have sailed to Alaska from Bellingham,WA, and around Alaska many times on the Matanuska. The ship is always clean and the meals are well prepared. We've slept in a tent on the deck and also on lawn chairs. Rooms are also available for rent. Showers are available for passengers.

Many shipping lines offer cruises through the Alaskan Inside passage. But the regular Alaskan Marine Highway ferries take you past the same scenery at bargain rates. We had the comparative luxury of a stateroom on the Malaspina but many passengers slept in their seats and some used sleeping bags under the roof of the aft deck, and some even pitched... More

We liked seeing M/V Matanuska in port in Bellingham. The M/V Matanuska is a ferry vessel for the Alaska Marine Highway System. We saw the ferry again on our trip when we were cursing on the Norwegian Pearl Cruise Ship in the Alaskan Inland Passageway area.

We rode twice on the Matanuska, from Juneau to Petersburg and then a few days later from Petersburg to Ketchikan. It was wonderful! We loved the front lounge area because the views were incredible and yet we really couldn't see much because of the weather but we felt like we were having a great experience anyway. We rented an inside... More

Even though the ferry was running late due to weather conditions before we boarded, the captain managed to get us to our destination on time. We were able to find a quiet, low traffic place to put out our sleeping bags. We enjoyed the towels provided for a small fee and the free showers. The food in the galley was... More

Two of us took this ferry from Skagway to Juneau. We had a vehicle and purchased a cabin. Took a long time to load vehicles at our stop in Haines. The groups of four seats in the observation lounge are awkwardly placed for watching the scenery and seem more designed for yakking. (Seating on the Malaspina is better). Most of... More

Taking the AMHS into Southeast Alaska is a dream come true. One time and you will want to be a repeat customer! Love the Matanuska!

This is out third trip on The Mat. We love the AMH , and all the ships are great, but The Mat is our favorite. The rooms ate cozy , the food is fresh and hot, the staff and crew are extremely nice and professional, and the views of the inside passage can't be beat. If you ever get the... More

Great staff, a comfy cabin on a sparsely accommodated boat in winter. Great way to meet the locals, virtually no tourists on board at all. I just love Alaska, and watching the scenery go past on the boat is awesome. Food pretty good and surprisingly cheap on board. Love it!

We set sail from Bellinham Wa and pulled into Haines on the Matanska. The seas were really rocky at times but still very enjoyable. The views were incredible. Our stateroom was perfect for the 3 nights. The only negative feedback is don't at the food from the cafeteria we found several pieces of different color hair in my daughters breaded... More
