The biggest problem we had associated with visiting the refuge was the planning phase. The published maps aren't accurate. The road (Steamboat Slough Rd) along the river no longer goes through due to a washout. Also, it was impossible to find the Center Road trailhead...More

We stopped and read some of the signs. Looked for deer. There were none visible, even though there are supposed to be hundreds of them here. We did not take the "trail" which was actually a perfectly good road that had been blocked to vehicles....More

this a flat old road that has no signage, places to sit or interesting views. very little wildlife. If you are bored and want to go for walk this is it. Careful one road that use to take you to the trail head is now...More

I liked the ponds and sloughs in the refuge because they attracted so many duck, geese, and other birds. It was fun to see the Columbian White Tailed deer and learn of the project to help that species repopulate. The park rangers were extremely helpful...More

We enjoyed a peaceful walk through the refuge. We would have preferred walking on a trail (it's a paved road), but the bird songs and pretty scenery were certainly worth the trip.

This is a wonderful place to walk and think take in the beautiful area,birds and deer.It is so peaceful you will want to come back again and again.
