Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

This zoo has traditionally been my favorite. But we accidentally hit spring break, so it was crowded. The acquarium is closed until the new one opens. The underground viewing was open, as well as petting manta rays and sharks, but it was packed. So crowded...More

We made our annual pilgrimage to see the lights and enjoy some of the animals at the zoo. It is limited on the amount of animals you see since this is after regular viewing hours. But the lights are pretty incredible. Most of them are...More

Though a small zoo, the variety of animals is really nice, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. We were glad we ate before we visited as none of the concession stands were open (late March, mid-week). They are...More

I honestly was expecting this to be more of a touristy roadside zoo, but was blown away by the great design and spacious habitats for the animals. The red wolf conservation program is impressive, and I’ll never forget the unique sound of a walrus whistling...More

We love this zoo. Very affordable with lots to do. So many areas for the kids to play and the animals are pretty close together so the kids are never bored. Very nice. And lots of food options. We stop here every time we come...More

Overall, I liked this place...but a few of the employees were less than helpful and rude. I had pre-purchased tickets for entry to the park where your suppose to avoid the line, scan your ticket and go in. We had two out of five that...More

What a great place to take all family members for a nice walk through the park or over to the kids center to play on the cool toys!! A family membership is the best way to go if you visit often..

We do love this Zoo & Aquarium. Nice exhibits. Having both the Zoo & the Aquarium in same space is great. They have a shark exhibit + 'petting' of sting rays (a favorite of our daughter). Be warned - if it is a sunny weekend...More

Hello, According to their website, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is open 9:30am to 4:00pm daily, September 26 - October 31. The zoo is open year round, but in the winter the number of days open are reduced.

They will be open just about all year other than the coldest months of the year because most animals will hibernate. Going in October would be great as long as it doesn't rain and the day is not too hot but not too cold.
