Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

Point Defiance Zoo very small compared to it's Seattle cousin, but it makes for a fun afternoon. Some of the displays are old and a little dated, but the animals seem well cared for and loved by the staff. It's layout is more like a...More

It is a good option to spend the day with the kids, of course it is an adult program too. The polar bear is nice to see.

This zoo is really pretty. Between the artwork and shrubs/plants/trees; there are so many bright and beautiful colors to see. The place is super clean too which is amazing since there were tons of people there. The animals and enclosures were nice to look at....More

This is a great zoo and they are building a new aquarium that will open in 2018. The food in the zoo is way over priced. Bring your own lunch.

They will be open just about all year other than the coldest months of the year because most animals will hibernate. Going in October would be great as long as it doesn't rain and the day is not too hot but not too cold.
