We stopped here on our way to Mt St Helens. Nice to browse through the old newspapers and to learn more about the eruption. Small gift shop, bit overpriced. We had an excellent meal. Everything (including toilets) is very clean.

This is a good rest stop on the way to the observatory. They have interesting exhibits, good bathrooms, a nice gift shop, great views and a nice restaurant. This is supposed to be a good place to see Roosevelt Elk but we haven't been lucky on our two visits.

I really enjoyed the visitor center. It is beautiful with friendly staffing and the elk burgers were good. The view inside and out on the decking is very nice view of the valley. You can see Mt. Hood from here on a clear day. It was a relaxing stop. Helicopter rides can be taken weather permitting. We stopped on the... More

The Hoffstadt Bluffs Visitor Center is the first very good place to pull over and to get a good picture of Mt St Helens as you drive highway 504 towards the Johnston Ridge Visitor. There is a very nice store and large parking lot as well.

When we stopped, we realized that it was a private enterprise with a beautiful building, restaurant, gift shop, and a few historical displays. Found the newspaper articles very interesting. Can arrange for a 25 minute helicopter ride for $250 per person for two. Otherwise, probably only a 15 minute stop unless you want food or a ride.

Saw the helicopter sign and couldn't resist. Talked to Tina in the gift shop who set us up with Robert for our trip to the crater of Mt. St. Helens. This is something my husband - a photographer - has wanted for a very long time and we were not disappointed. Robert was an excellent tour guide, pointing out and... More

Stopped in on our way up to Johnston Ridge. Well worth it. Lots of neat old pics. My family spent tons of time up here prior to 1980. Great view out front.

We were hear more for the restaurant, but the views of the mountains and wildlife on the backside were great. Vis center was kinda tiny, more newspaper articles then anything else, but it was an ok stop. 'June 15

We were told to stop here because there's a good gift shop - which there is - but it's the view that makes it worth stopping. The view of Hoffstadt Creek looks like its from some other planet. There are interesting plaques and information commemorating Harry Truman who died at his Spirit Lake home in the eruption along with his... More
