Beautiful collection of Petried woods and rocks. The staff is friendly and seemed to especially enjoy talking with kids about areas geology.

We broke up our drive from Pullman to Vancouver, BC here, and had a lovely picnic lunch overlooking the river. Definitely recommend this by-donation museum, and bring some extra cash for their gift shop, as there are some great finds in there! Geocaching in the area makes the afternoon complete - plan a couple of hours to explore it all.

The best part about this place is the collection of petrified tree trunks that are outside among the goofy dinosaur recreations (like from some B-grade, 50's Japanese sci-fi flick). These trunks are very impressive.

We stayed in Ellensburg, and as we came from Boise on I-82 we had to go back on I-90 to visit. It was well worth it! Amazing petroglyphs of millions year-old trees; well displayed and explained. So are the Indian rock paintings. The Center provides a beautiful viiew of the Columbia River. Then - as a bonus - a flock... More

You can wander around the park and enjoy the views, that's the best part. You can also check out petrified forest remains and Native American petroglyphs which is neat. A good visit.

My husband and I were on a road trip to Wyoming from Vancouver and stopped here. As a tree biologist, I found it fascinating to see that these now petrified conifers had once thrived here in this place that is now a desert. There were also some really nice wildflowers. I am convinced that desert flowers are the most spectacular,... More

You would expect to see Ginkgo trees in a warmer and more temperate place. But by Vantage, Wash., on the west side of the I-90 bridge, there is a forest of petrified ginkgo trees. You can wander dirt trails on a hillside to see all the half-buried ginkgo trees. It is easier to just stop at the store outside the... More

I was so happy with our trip to the Ginkgo petrified forest and interpretive center. There were many large pieces of petrified wood at the int. center that we could feel and take pictures of, the dinosaurs were fun to take pictures with, and the little store had so many amazing rocks and the owners were very knowledgeable. My kids... More

This was a great display of the petrified wood from the forests that used to be in the area. There are also a couple amazing petroglyph panels created by Native Americans with the remainder of them lost beneath the lake behind Wanapum Dam.
