This park had a beautiful lodge with indoor pool and they also had an outdoor pool. they had golf . Many winter activities
A big Ice skating pavilion and down hill and cross country skiing. We visited in the fall they had a few nice hiking trails, and the fall color views were beautiful but I think there is more to do in either the winter and the summer.

Everything seems new in the lodge and we saw a lot of work being done on the cabins. Make sure you make a reservation for the main dining room if it is at all busy. They are short on staff and guests were waiting in line for a long time to be seated. We had reservations so were seated fairly quickly.

Father and son spent three nights in early June 2021 at the lodge. Nice stay, with golf, heated outdoor pool, indoor pool, some hiking, etc. Food was pretty good at the Hickory Dining Room and we also had lunch in the new cafe near the lobby. Overall, we had a good time, a pretty good place to explore the area, and relax and enjoy the scenery.

We stayed here for three days. We had a beautiful room with a balcony. We visited all three of the restaurants and we were not disappointed. A lot of the restaurants in town were closed. They also served local beer from the tap which I enjoyed. The trails around the park were all gorgeous and full of breathtaking beauty around every corner. I highly recommend the Blackwater Falls trail. I found the staff helpful and prompt. I was overcharged initially but the matter was quickly rectified. I look forward to staying in the cabins next time we come.

Very upset with this place. Made reservations with church conference, we had our reservations canceled 5 days before. They gave us a different day to only tell us later that it was also booked. Had more than 50 people signed up and just embarrassing and sad to tell them all the trip was canceled.

Very disappointed in how Canaan Resort has gone downhill in the past t 2 years. My husband and I went for Christmas breakfast, the buffet was marginal in its offerings and the hot food was only lukewarm. For the money it was definitely not worth it and we won't eat there again. Our experience with the snow tubing was even more disappointing. Family drove 3 hours to go tubing, bought tickets online early in the day, went to our time frame we had signed up for, waited in line 1 hour to find that there were no tubes available, Canaan had over sold the tubes ! Yes we were reimbursed for our rentals and given a card to use for another visit but it did not make up for the drive time, the wait and the disappointment. A very poorly managed resort and we will not return or recommend it.

We liked the trail options at Canaan Valley, and the quick reference guide gave you a sense of the type of terrain. But the trail intersections were not well marked.

We missed the first intersection of Mill Run trail with Black Hollow. And we only found Black Hollow trail again because we could see the lodge. The trails, themselves, are well-marked.

The Blackwater River trail was pretty, especially by the river.

This park and the entire region is an outdoor lovers dream . We visit this park and the area several times a year . The lodge and the Park offer great experiences for us .
The only concern though is the rapid rise in lodge pricing . We can no longer justify the steep hikes in a two bed room at the lodge . It seems that just a few years ago we paid 110 . per night . Last year the price was 140. and this year it increased 18 % to 170 plus 35. in fees.
Since there are many home and Airbnbs in the area we will seek out other lodging in the future on our regular visits to Canaan Valley.
I wish our income would rise 18 % per year but it has not increased that much over the past 15 years !!!
Park managers will have to modify this in the near future to retain guests .
Otherwise it is a lovely lodge .

We did the gondola ride up the ski hill---like $5--worth it. Nice slow--got a chance to relax and view the beauty. When we got to the top you don't have to get off--but we did and found a opening just a short walk up the open area. There we found a wide open view of a valley and it turns out to be spot that hang gliders some time use
