My wife and I and our 13-year-old daughter has a first cross-country skiing lesson earlier this week. We decided to tough it out despite a blasting wind and blowing snow. Our instructor (whose name we can't remember--Suzanne??) was great and patient and really stuck with us despite the awful conditions (as in, the trash cans outside were starting to blow away). HUGE props to her. The whole place was very laid back and friendly, and the equipment rentals were easy. The soup and chili at the cafe were excellent. We very much look forward to returning under more benign conditions.

This was our first time cross country skiing and the place is amazing! The lesson helped out a lot and the ski-farm has trails where you can practice before you go into the woods. If you know how to down-hill ski you can cross country ski with a little practice. The woods are amazing! The trails are marked with difficulty levels, just like regular hiking trails. The people at the lodge were awesome!

This was our second trip to White Grass. The snow and trails were well groomed and beautiful as always. Do to Covid safety protocols, the rental and check-in procedures were a little confusing. It would’ve been helpful to have some employees or signs posted to help guide newbies. Staff was friendly and relaxed. Cafe was open and taking orders through the window. They suggested online ordering, but it’s hard to get cell service in that area. They were careful about limiting the number of people in the building at one time. Such a gem of a place when the snow is falling! We will be back.

I discovered White Grass when a meeting I was attending had a dinner scheduled here. I'd never heard of it and am so disappointed it took me so long to discover this place! After that meeting I've returned for dinner on a Saturday evening and, even though I'm not a skier, I've fallen in love with the place. The food is out of this world and the clientele is this awesome mix of people from around the world. It reminded me so much of the places near where I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, right down to the healthy and, when possible, locally sourced food. I can't wait to go back!

Will be back! Although we planned to do some XC skiing (no snow) we managed to not be disappointed because white Grass knows how to entertain even when the weather doesn’t. We participated in a morning hike, led by Chip. It was educational with a combined emphasis on the history and conservation efforts in the Canaan Valley. We ended the hike with a stop in the cozy White Grass cafe for some delicious International menu offerings. Must try the free chaga tea, but first ask Chip about it. This place makes you feel like you belong and feels like visiting family in the mountains. We can’t wait to hang out and do some Nordic skiing in the near future.
