Great First Time Experience

Had a great time last year, went two times with two different families and loved every minute of it. Wanting to go back this year only to be told that they now limit it to 4 people per caboose, therefore excluding any family with more than two children and they won't make any exceptions. Even though we camped outside the... More

We stayed on the Castaway Caboose which is part of the Durbin Greenbrier Valley Railroad experience in Durbin, WV. Our stay was in September 2016. My husband and I had been looking forward to this trip for over a year. And it was so worth the wait. We booked the Castaway Caboose for three nights. But, you can stay less... More

Being out in the middle of no where was great. Just enjoying nature and peace and quite. However, if you have the first cast away spot, your peace and quite will be interrupted. Twice a day the train will come by and stop just yards from your caboose. People will get off the train and head straight for the caboose.... More

This was not the ride I had planned for, originally. However, I am glad it was the one which was available. I waited too long to make reservations for the Bald Knob excursion, from Cass, WV. The Durbin Rocket was a 2-hour round-trip along the Greenbrier River. A very leisurely pace along the river allowed for enjoying the scenery &... More

The ten mile, 2-2.5 hr ride was as advertised. The staff were friendly and informative. The cars were quite original except for the on board toilet. The ride moved slowly along the river allowing for pictures and appreciating the scenery. The experience felt pretty much what it must have been like in the logging days along this route; complete with... More

Our grandsons were excited for their first train ride. In fact it was their dad's first train ride, too. They had the biggest smiles when the whistle would blow. One car is completely open, one enclosed, one is open but covered and then there's the caboose. There is plenty of room to move around. The enclosed car has a bathroom.... More

This was a nice way to spend a rainy morning. My daughter who is 6 loved the train and despite the rain we stayed dry in the open air car.

Durbin is a small town but extremely friendly. Daily railroad trips, spectacular scenery. Short distance from Cass.

I like scenic railways so my husband is always looking for unique experiences involving them. He found the Castaway Caboose about 1.5 years ago. After a year on the waiting list we were booked. We drove down on a Friday and boarded our private caboose for two nights at the end of the line. The railroad provides everything you might... More
