Beautiful views with tractor ride to and from the island or you can walk in the water, we chose both! You can go inside the lighthouse too! Really neat.

Thank you for your great review. We think that Cana Island is such a special place that we are in a huge multi-million dollar restoration project to keep the lighthouse secure for many generations to come.

This is a beautiful lighthouse! We enjoyed the grounds and touring the lighthouse, but half of the fun was riding in a wagon behind a tractor to get over the causeway to the Lighthouse. Highly recommended!More

Thank you for your great review. Also check out this fall our new lighthouse restoration project happening to the oil house, privy and barn found on the property. We are still fundraising for the total inflated cost of the project. Let us know if you...More

Thank you for your review. This 1869 lighthouse never looses its charm and luster. Check out our new restoration project happening on the island now.

The house is made out of brick and the lighthouse was covered in steel to keep the water from destroying the limestone. The best part was crossing the water in the wagon to get to the lighthouse.More

In 1869 the lighthouse tower was built on an eight-foot foundation with double walls for ventilation. The outer wall narrows from a thickness of two feet at the base to fifteen inches in thickness about sixty-five feet above the foundation. The walls of the inner...More

Thank you for your review. In 1884, the Lighthouse Board finally decided to take steps to prevent the occasional flooding of the lighthouse station. In 1890 a crew of twenty-five men filled in half an acre of the lowest areas of the island with dirt and...More

95 steps will get you to the top & you'll have a 360 degree view from up there. On Lake Michigan. Water level was high so we were able to ride on a wagon pulled by a tractor across the sand bar to the island.More

Thank you for your review. Can you believe that after sixteen years of service, William Sanderson resigned as keeper of Cana Island Light in 1891, calling Cana Island “one of the most inhospitable and undesirable places that can well be imagined.” The station’s isolation and...More

I'm so thrilled you made the climb. Did you know that an acetylene light was installed at Cana Island in mid-November 1924, and the lighthouse keeper, Sanderson, was informed that the station would now be closed during the winter months. In early spring, the keepers...More

Love this lighthouse. Beautiful and tons of great photo opportunities - be sure to lug out the REAL camera, not your cell phone. Went in May and got some great photos of the lilacs. Relaxing, quiet, beautiful.

This is a nice lighthouse tour. The crossing to the island by hay wagon through the shallow water is fun. The grounds are neat to see and the restoration is well done. A hike to the top is worthwhile.More
