The mill is open on Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4pm, May-October. Beckman Mill is located at Beckman Mill County Park, 6 miles west of Beloit, Wisconsin. On the grounds of the 50-acre county park you will see an authentically restored 1868 grist mill, a new dam, mill pond, fish ladder, foot bridge, saw mill display, 1840s cooperage, visitor center, gift shop, creamery, blacksmith shop, picnic shelter, vintage garden, nature trail and more. The showpiece of the park is the Beckman Mill, the restoration of which was completed in 1997 by the Friends of Beckman Mill's volunteer work crew. It is operational with power being supplied by its original 1860s water driven Leffel turbine. In the event alternate power is needed, the mill can be operated by its vintage two-cylinder gasoline engine. The mill was built shortly after the Civil War by millwright William Howe of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. In 1882 it was acquired by August Beckmann who had previously operated mills in nearby Juda and Hanover. The mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. A well restored working 19th century mill. The docent was well versed and the surrounding park beautiful. Well worth the visit

Very fun and informative tour of the mill. The park itself is very nice also. Plenty of parking for the busy times, as it can get when they grind flour on the first Saturday of the month.

Picturesque setting in the heart of southern WI. First volunteer we encountered was less knowledgeable than the next...but in the mill, the tour guide was highly enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and able to field questions with ease.

What a great afternoon!! We walked around the grounds and it was just beautiful!! The volunteers are so sweet and have great stories and information about the old mill and grounds. The gift shop has corn meal milled there for $2 a bag! Would be a great place to picnic! We had a great time and will be coming back... More

We arrived at the Mill by chance, as we were looking for a picnic area not too far from the Hwy. It was a nice surprise: the volunteers invited us to join a guided tour, which was really interesting and amazing. Worth the trip!

Scenic and interesting but if you want a tour don't go until 1:00 PM as no one is there before that! Stopped on a Saturday and had to look in the windows to see the grist mill.

Beautiful place to picnic and take in the history of the mill. Great opportunities to view and experience the thrill of the restored water dam or fish from several shore areas. All the while taking in the best that nature has to offer.

My husband and I spent an enjoyable couple of hours at Beckman Mill. The volunteer base does an awesome job of narrating tours and have done great restoration work. As this is a county park, there were also lots of families with small children taking advantage of a nice fishing spot for beginners. Highly recommend a visit.
