This museum is not very well known, but is a great place to spend an afternoon. There is a working steam engine that usually runs every hour or so in the warmer months. Kids love it. There are also many trains on display of historical significance - biggest trains, presidential trains, steam engines, electric cars, diesels, etc. They have a... More

I just love this place. It brings me back to a simpler time in my childhood. It's great for kids. The holiday and special events, like Thomas the Train visiting are really nice.

As a family of children and grandchildren we visited this very special place. It just so happened that a presentation of Polar Express was being offered. A wonderful museum which should not be missed if in the area. A happy place with tons of railroad memories. We plan to return to see if we missed anything.

I have never been to the National Railroad Museum before. I got tickets for the Polar Express event there. What a great event! I know I want to go back and see the museum again. Many schools take field trips here...what a great place to see first hand the transportation industry that has been in the USA for a very... More

It's a wonderful place to explore. Allow a lot of time for kids to have fun hopping on and off the trains inside the museum. The winter wonderland takes me back to my childhood when the displays were department store fronts. Can't beat it when Thomas the Train comes to town in the summer. It's must see and ride. Love... Just got back from the nicest afternoon spent at this museum. It was very quiet and at one point I think we may have been the only people in the whole place but the gentleman who was working in the gift store was so friendly and helpful. It was a lovely day and it was so nice to take our... More

This is one of my favorite museums. You can tour old trains, learn more about steam engines, and the history of transportation. A lot to learn and see for the whole family. Also check out the look-out tower on the Fox!

Chris, the manager, was very helpful in the Museum store as he is very knowledgeable about train history. I loved being able to tour the trains and experience the history by walking inside them and being the "engineer" by sitting in the front seat of the WWII Dwight D. Eisenhower train....fabulous!

Nice museum as far as it goes. Has a land-locked loop track with rides. Three outstanding exhibits: PRR GG-1 electric locomotive, UP Big Boy Steam Locomotive, British 4-8-2 Dwight Eisenhower. All stored inside and beautiful. Rest of the moderate collection is stored outside undercover. Some big steam locos - fairly well preserved, but stored in a way one cannot get... More
