We rode from Jefferson to just west of Lake Mills. Sand Hill Cranes were on the trail and the trees canopied several miles which offered great shade. We were disappointed that it was not paved as we had read on other websites, but otherwise it was a nice hard packed trail with great views of the lakes and rivers.

We started our biking journey at the trailhead in Cottage Grove and headed east to Lake Mills --- approximately 15 miles one way. The trail is a crushed gravel rail trail and quite level offering a pleasant ride for all levels of cyclists. The trail is scenic and most of it is lightly covered / tree lined offering shade and... We visited in late May, and the flowers and wildlife were amazing. Sandhill cranes, egrets, great blue herons, indigo buntings, 13 line ground squirrels, and Canada geese were in abundance. The trail surface is mostly crushed limestone. "Crushed limestone" is different than "gravel" - it is mostly pretty much rock dust, and compacts very nicely into a stable roadbed. However,... More

I love the way Wisconsin bike trails are clearly labeled and easy to find for out of state travelers. There is parking. This does not happen all over the US. This trail is beautiful to ride. There are small towns along the route. We felt lucky to be riding on a sunny spring day with lots of flowers blooming, beautiful... More

By foot or by bike, traveling the Glacial Drumlin trail is relaxing. Be on the lookout for wildlife and eventually the beautiful sight of Rock Lake.

I've ridden my bike on the trail a couple times. It is a nice trial with good places to stop along the way. Not the best scenery compared to the other southern Wisconsin recreational bike trails - but the trail surface is good and easy to ride.

I use the trail for running, walking dogs, skijoring, and biking. Lake views and wildlife watching excellent.

I have ridden this trail in sections probably 4 times total. The surface is well taken care of, and there are plenty of towns spread out along the way. It is pretty flat except the section from Wales to Waukesha which is a pretty good downhill run. The Trail is paved from Dousman to Waukesha, and is in pretty good... More

The Glacial Drumlin Trail is marvelous. It was created in about 1986/1987 from an old defunct train track. There are basically two halves to the GDT: the eastern half which is the Waukesha to Jefferson area half, and then the western half which is the Rock River to Cottage Grove half. The latter half tends to be more bucolic and... More
