Starting in Marshland, the trail borders the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge. The conditions of the trail were not very good, especially riding on road tires. I figured the trail would get better. The trail continues through Trempealeau and I biked over several wooden bridges that...More

Great bike ride midway to Trempleau. Flat former rail bed. Like a tree tunnel on a lot of it. Several bridges over rivers and marsh. 20 25 mile round trip. Would ride west to Trempleau first then back as wind will be behind you

This area is supposedly cyclist heaven, but I don't find most roads to be bike-friendly. The trails offer that level of safety despite the occasional road crossing. They are amazingly well maintained, which means they are also patrolled. Have your pass handy.

Cycling from La Crosse to Trempeleau and back along the Great River State Trail is a good way to spend 3-4 hours. Cycling on Wisconsin trails requires a trail pass that you can pick up at posts on the trail or purchase ahead of time...More

I envisioned biking next to the Mississippi River. Since we started just north of Onalaska, there were no river views. There were however, lots of marshes, and bridges over smaller creeks and rivers. We saw deer, turtles, eagles, egrets and a large brown snake which...More

This trail was our 3rd trail between Mankato,MN to Wisconsin Dells,WI. We used it from beginning to the end. When we started in Marshland Access, the trail was closed. We had no idea why it was closed. After a mile we saw a puddle on...More

Biked the trail from Onalaska toward Trempeleau just this week. This is an easy ride but maintenance over the last couple of years has fall off. It now is generally a 2 lane cow path. There is no longer pea gravel on most of the...More

This is a fairly level trail with just a couple of hills on it. It is gravel but usually pretty smooth. It is very pretty at the right time of year. Goes along Lake Onalaska and through a lot of marshy area. Good chance to...More

Great trail. Well maintained and easy to navigate. I like to bike it. West of town, be prepared for sun. Not much cover. I have Verizon and can't get service west of town. (no pandora) North provides much more cover and woodsy feel. Watch out...More

It is pretty sparse for Hotels in that area, you would probably have to go across the river into Winona Minnesota, or into the town of Trempealeau itself. From Downtown Trempealeau to the northern terminus at Hwy 35 looks... More
