Great place!

Awesome look back on western history! My teenage girl loves this place. My grandfather homesteaded in Campbell County in 1920. I felt so connected to his life during our visit.

The Rockpile Museum is absolutely worth making time for in your visit to or through Gillette. Meticulously presented, the exhibits are visually engaging as well as informative. They cover a remarkable range of interests, from an extraordinary rifle collection to Triceratops fossils to coal-mining videos to displays of life as it was in years past. In each area, there are... Starting at the entrance, we were be greeted by a local woman who obviously loves living in Gilette, Wyoming. She explained the layout which is beautifully planned. My favorite exhibits were the pioneer quilts with carefully written labels. The saddles and boots display also made me understand the skills required to make them. The sheep herder's wagon was also informative.... More

Was not expecting much...but what a surprise. All for FREE admission, they do have a jar for donations. This is a lot larger than expected. They had a nice gun display, the history of Gillette, videos on coal mining, chuck wagons, saddles, and much more. In a separate building they had a couple of old cars, typesetting section, an old... It's free. But you get much more than you paid for. A great gun collection, a backyard full with old agricultural equipment and carriages, several historical buildings, a special exhibit of “Gillette's first 25 years”, and more and more. Read the story of Gillette's Bermuda Triangle... Well worth your time if history is your thing. **

IS a very small place with very few things. I think they could do much better than that. The town needs a good museum.

We stayed in Gillette a lot longer than we had planned so got to experience the museum. We were able to spend a couple of hours here with no problem. We enjoyed reading the history of the area and viewing the artifacts.

My daughter was here two weeks before with 5 yr old. They loved it. I was impressed with the categories on display. THey had Archaelogy, Geology, WW2, early settlers, Plains Indians, Guns, Bow & Arrow, Arrowheads, Wild West Days, Taxidermy, Coal Mining, Sheepherding, Cowboying, Saddles, Railroad, Farming,Theater, Fossils, Homesteaders and more. We didn't even get to the other barns outside.
