The tour lasts 2 hours. The tour guide/bus driver was a former employer and was very knowledgeable of the operation. My teenage boys loved this tour. Gillette produces 39% of the nation's coal. The trucks are massive.

We took the 9:30 tour with Larry and were amazed at his level of knowledge. We learned many facts and he was able to answer everyone's questions. We got a good view of the mine and it's loading operations.

Coal mine is not as busy it use to be . The mining industry is really feeling the bump for the choices that have been made . Still worth the stop too look at

A two hour tour for $5.00 is worth the money. We had an excellent and educational tour of the mine. Our guide explained in great detail how the rail cars are loaded, the coal is mined, the trucks are loaded and dumped. We had plenty of time to take pictures and ask questions..

The tour of this mine was the primary reason we were spending some time in Gillette. The guide was very knowledgeable about the mine because she had worked there for a while. She was able to give us a lot of information about how they mine the coal and how they reclaim the land afterwards.

The tour guide was very friendly, as were the scheduling staff. We went to the wrong place and were late and they were very nice. It's about a two hour bus tour of a working coal mine and for $5/person a very good deal.

Our group of 43 seniors, aboard a charter coach, had a step-on guide give us quite a tour of this huge open-pit coal mine. The information he shared with us was educational, interesting, thorough, and totally amusing. We really enjoyed learning about the coal trains that come through our towns at night.

Our special 'blast' tour was marred by a tire blow out on the way there, and the busses a.c. was not functioning where we sat. It had to be well over 110 degrees where we sat and couldn't get out. The mine its self is one of the smaller mines. I do appreciate the fact that the mine allows us... More

Thank you for your comment. Again, for everyone reading this review, the regular mine tours DO NOT include a blast. This was a special tour set up for a convention group. Unfortunately, having a flat tire on the tour bus on the interstate is certainly not something we could have avoided, and I was proud of how our guide handled... More

We went on this tour because we wanted to experience the mine blast. Our tour guide was not real familiar with the day to day operations that go on. She knew all the numbers and process after the coal was extracted from the mines. The blast was not what we expected from what others have told us and we were... More

Thank you for your comments. Everyone reading this please note: this was a special tour set up for a convention, and the regular mine tours DO NOT include a blast! As this is a real, working mine, safety is the first priority, and the guide felt that due to safety regulations it was not appropriate for your group to deboard... More
