We spent part of Thanksgiving Day visiting this lovely park. It is not a very difficult walk although there are a lot of stairs. We were very pleasantly surprised by the beautiful large fall and the lush vegetation. It is worth the very small entry...More

Akaka Falls State Park is a small state park (plan to spend at most an hour here) with lush rainforest and two larger waterfalls (and uncountable smaller ones). Be aware that it is very warm and humid here (and rainy) - so, dress appropriately.

We really enjoyed Alaska falls - you get to see two and the park surrounding them with beautiful flora and more of the Jurassic park scenery- stunning! You must be able to climb stairs though but it’s worth it! Tip; park outside the lot and...More

The walk is short. I was expecting a HIKE to get to the falls. The loop is concrete all the way, and short. We took our time and did the entire place in under 2 hours. For reasonably able-bodied folks just wanting a picture of...More

These falls the best that Hilo has to offer is way better than Rainbow falls. Just breathtaking to take in. Easy walk.

The parking lot can fill up, but people leave fairly regularly since the waterfall is a quick stop to see.

We went after there had been a lot of rain. Epic. A bit of a walk and lots of steps but well worth it.

We could walk on the longer trail, or on the short trail, and we did both. It was a wonderful botanical walk, with waterfalls and many trees, plants, birds, and the occasional gecko

There are three main falls and a couple minor falls located along a loop trail (concrete walks and steps). All were running hard due to recent rains - pretty impressive. The main falls - Akaka - is twice as tall as Niagara Falls. The loop...More

There is no Entry Fee. There is, however, a Parking Fee. I think it's about $4.00 for visitors. Free for Kama'aina.

The walkways and stairs could become very slippery if it were to rain a substantial amount. Being wet and cold also doesn't sound like a great way to enjoy the falls. I'd wait and see how the weather forecast unfolds and... More

I wouldn't recommend it as the trails down are narrow at times and can be wet.
