We knew we wanted to see waterfalls so we drove out to this park. It has a paid parking lot that you use a pay parking meter. There is an attendant there so we felt our car was safe. The hike to the falls is a pretty steep paved walkway with a few steps. Easy for us as we are... More

It is easy to get here, normally easy to park. A great point to visit on a upper Island Hamakua Coast Tour. On this day one might pass through Waimea, stop at Wapio Valley View point, stop at Umauma Falls, Akaka Falls, the Botanical Garden, Rainbow Falls, Boiling Pots and end up at the Mauna Kea Visitors Center after dark.... The Akaka Falls were closed because a tree was being cut down. I have been there before and is is well worth it! Check before you drive from Kona to Hilo to see it.

Easy paved hike to falls viewing platform. You view from a distance. Circular hiking path crosses a small bridge with stream and small cascading falls. Parking was easy. Well worth journey. 40 minutes excursion roughly once parked

Beautifully kept park with a smooth trail, sidewalk and steps to see one of the most beautiful waterfalls on any Hawaiian island. The botanical garden type trail down to see the falls is also worthy of photos. Take your time and take it all in!

We did the loop tosee both falls in the pouring rain. It was still beautiful. Water was a little muddy because it had been raining, but the falls were still beautiful

You really must go if you haven't been. It's a bit strenuous up and down steps, but a smooth walkway and beautiful flora besides the 2 waterfalls to see. It only takes about 20 minutes to hike it.

We did the Akaka Falls loop and it was beautiful. I recommend taking the direct route to Akaka Falls and skip the other which is pretty non-descript.
