What a wonderful place to take a leisurely walk. Nicely landscaped with Japanese gardens and ponds. Easy to walk and located on Banyan Drive, which is nicely shaded and is also a nice for a walk. No admittance costs.

We drove by these gardens many times during our stay at the Grand Naniloa nearby. From the back of the hotel on the bay we could see Coconut Island where a number of people had picnics. Coconut Island is on the bay (in Hilo) and...More

Large beautiful garden close to hotels, restaurants, airport & many other activities. It’s well maintained with many fun paths, large shaded areas, & sites to see. Good history lesson too. Downside is people driving close weren’t really watching for pedestrians or going the speed limit...More

This garden near our hotel remains a delight to walk through and see the immense, beautiful trees. The mixture of ponds, bay front, and gardens is impressive. A must see and do in Hilo!

It's free! Huge banyan and monkey trees surround the gardens. They alone are worth the visit to this large garden. The locals use this place for a running park. Seemed to be a lot of dog walkers too. Gardens are so so...but overall, if you...More

Not a good idea as it does not have adequate lighting in the evening and you could turn an ankle as the surface is uneven.

There is a lovely restaurant next door, Hilo Bay Cafe, which may do functions. Lovely view of the bay, delicious food, and walking distance of the gardens.
