A quiet place to enjoy the afternoon. Bring insect repellant, bottled water and foodas there is no place to get those.

We hiked the 2.5 miles there with our 7 & 9 year old. It was very windy and at times the sand blasted us. While it seemed never ending, the scenery and walk along the ocean coast was breathtaking at times. Plus, the beach it's self was studding. The green sand was soft. However, the currents were too strong for... More

Worth checking out - good birding on the road in. Look out over the cliff from the wooden scaffolding. Beautiful place.

This is one of only 4 green sand beaches in the world. It is well worth the hike. If you need a ride there are locals who will drive you out but we hiked it and were happy we did. Tip: 1. try to stay along the shoreline on your way there. The views are spectacular. On the way back... More

A true hidden gem of the big island of Hawaii. My friend, who is a geologist, told me about Papakolea and the green sand beach, and we decided to look into how to hike this! The other reviews are accurate: it's not easy, but it's totally worth it. It's one of only FOUR green sand beaches IN THE WORLD, so... More

It's slightly remote. Some go here to jump off the cliff to the water despite a big Danger sign warning not to do so. If in the area, it's worth a look. Only visited south point, not green sands.

We visited the green sand beach yesterday and it was spectacular! The road in was much worse than we expected and we saw a rental Jeep Renegade coming out with the rear bumper dragging the ground and significant damage to the side. We chose to hire a local gentleman Jose Gomez to drive us there in his 4x4 truck. The... More

It was a great beach, well worth the trek. We took out a Jeep and made it out just fine! If walking leave early and wear sturdy shoes, it's also very windy and dusty.

I drove the South Point Rd towards the green beach where there were reportedly green turtles also. There were locals in the dirt parking lot who were asking $15.00/person for 45 minutes on the beach. The trucks looked little unsafe. There was a lean 2 with coolers for drinks but none available, "they went on errands". You had to come... More

We hiked from the parking lot. It took one hour one way, going at a good pace. It was dusty and rocky and requires good walking shoes. Do not wear flip flops, even if you take a ride there, you shouldn't try to go down the steep slope to the beach on flip flops as there is a lot of... More
