I was especially interested in finding the "Hammock Lady". I found a colorful and sturdy replacement hammock. I also bought some produce. There was a lot to see. The attraction was free; however, parking was $1/car and going up to $2/car on May 27, 2017.

It was nice to walk around this market for about 45 minutes and then I was done. It only had a small collection of fruit and vegetable vendors. Most of the rest was clothing, necklaces, rings, honey, other items. Few had services like massage. There were a few food booths selling drinks and food. The crepe one looked great. There... More

While most markets have the standard arrangements of booths offering food, crafts, plants, Maku'u Market gives the added benefit of mingling with more vendors willing to make conversation than I have experienced. Every conversation will teach the listener something interesting and purchases that result from such conversations seem to offer a much longer afterglow of satisfaction. Bringing cash is a... More

Maku'u Farmers Market is a couple of miles outside Pahoa town. The market is Sunday only. It's easy to find. Parking is $1. People are coming and going all the time, if you don't find a space on your first trip around, you probably will on your second. Bring a tote bag, some of the vendors don't supply bags. Great... Since we weren't looking to buy veggies or fruit, we mostly went to just see the market. It is quite big and parking is a trip - they charge $1 and there is a huge field available for parking. It was an interesting blend of produce, food and hand-made items. Good for browsing. Prepared food to eat was plentiful and... More

The Maku'u farmers market is not to be confused with the "Pahoa farmers market". The Maku'u farmers market is located midway between Pahoa and Keaau, close to Ainaloa. The Pahoa farmers market is just south of Pahoa and has been relocated to the Nanewale longhouse in the Nanewale estates just off Kapoho road. If you search for "Pahoa farmers market"... More

We went to Makku u Farmers Market not for folcloric reasons but for shopping food . The market had only a very poor offer of decent food. The only acceptable section was in general vegtables.....however I could not tell that there was a big difference to one of the nearby supermarkets of Pahoa. Bread.....NO. Cheese no! Well one small stand... More

This is a big farmer's market. Lots of vendors. Lots of fruits and vegetables, some organic, some exotic. Also, lots of craft vendors selling all kinds of things - jewelry, t-shirts, sarongs, candles, pottery, herbal medicines, etc. And there are quite a few hot food vendors. And live music.

We stopped at this Sunday only market and had a great time. The wide selection of fresh produce and flowers was outstanding. There were more than a dozen food vendors present. We tried a couple and they were very good. There were also vendors with both new and used merchandise at good prices. We will stop here again.
