Best snorkeling in Puna

This was a great day. The pools all contain surprise coral and fish, a delight. Bring water shoes, the rocks are sharp

Do this if you can. Lots of tropical fish an ecotic coral. Buy a cheap mask and snorkel at a local big box or bring it from home. This is free and not to be missed.

Great experience, wear shoes that are rugged, this is an area where the lava created tide pools. Good picnic area, drive here is slow but worth it

We had seen other write ups on visiting these tide pools. We ended up having to ask some locals for directions as we were having a hard time finding them. Once found we geared up an started our walk to the tide pools. There is parking (donation to pay box recommended about $3-5), and the parking is just outside a... More

This large natural warm pool is a unique experience. There is also a nice park there. My wife and I visited several times last year and enjoyed the experience. However, two things to keep in mind. It's best to wear water shoes. You will be walking on rocks. Second, locals advised us that the warm water can harbor bacteria when... More

We had read some reviews regarding contamination of these tide pools due to septic systems and cesspools from neighborhood so we went elsewhere. Do your research

Very average snorkelling. Over rated in reviews. Small fish and very little dull coral. If you are an experience snorkeler like us it is disappointing but city people will enjoy it. Great visibility in most pools and perfect spot for children to snorkel. Super safe in water. Bad thing is that you have to park outside the exclusive residential area... More

A short walk through a residential neighborhood will bring you to a lovely spot on the SE coast of the Big Island where you can lounge on the rocks or snorkel to your heart's content, enjoying the warm water and abundant tropical fish.

The snorkelling here was really great but we only had about an hour. It was a rainy day which worked great for our sunburns. The water was very warm and protected so it was perfect for my 8 year old to get a taste of how wonderful snorkelling can be. It is in a residential neighbourhood and parking is about... More

Went here after the sunrise lava tour was cancelled due to high wind/ waves. You can access by 7am with a beautiful sunrise and then head into the tide pools WITH WATER SHOES ON!!! It can be rocky. You would be shocked with the number of fish (closer to the right edge of the pools).
