The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. At a time when rainforest plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, the Garden is working to preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

If you are a guy, you might think that a visit to a botanical garden would be a drag. You would be sadly mistaken. Don't miss this. Spend an hour or two, and see not only some of the most beautiful rain forest preserves, but you will be treated to some of the best ocean views you have seen.

We weren't too sure about taking this tour as it was $18 per person but it turned out to be well worth every penny! Be sure to read the little bit of history about the garden and it's origins. The waterfall and stroll by the beach were very pretty. I loved all the orchids, even growing in the trees. Next... More

My wife, daughter and I spent about 3 hours visiting the gardens, and absolutely loved it. Lots of unusual and exotic flowers and plants. Definitely worth a 1/2 day visit while you are in the Hilo area!

Happened on while taking scenic coastal road off Rt. 19. Wonderful story of how this was developed. Excellent blend of indigenous and imported rain forest species. Walk down to coast where an early native community existed. Many different species of plants and trees. Climb out could be hard for any one with physical limitations but otherwise a gem.

We spent an hour going through the Botanical Garden and loved every minute of it. Highly recommended as a place to visit while staying in Hilo. Even the drive along the old highway to get to the Garden was great.

Allow 2-3 hours to explore these gardens. Unfortunately, we only allowed about an hour. Caution: the pathways going down into the garden are VERY steep. If you think this will be a challenge for you, you can pay a small fee to have a golf cart take you down into the garden and back out when you are done. Bring... More

For us, this was such a great adventures, we went back for a second visit to see what we missed the first time. The Hawaii Tropical Botanical is like no other we have every visited. It's stunning. Staff helpful, interactive. We spent 3+ hours both times. Look up and look down or you will miss a lot. IMO, it's a... More

This was beautiful, you could stroll thru this garden. There was so many beautiful flowers 🌺 to see. I think I would do this garden again next time we r on the island. The exotic birds were awesome, they talked to us several times! If you want a break from the beach this is a nice change!

If you like flowers and you like orchids, this is a place to not be missed. We lucked out on the day with high overcast and some sun, no mosquitoes, and few visitors. The variety of orchids was amazing, the different foliage, the view of the ocean bay, and the paved walking trails a delight. Some of the paths are... More
