Exploring KAUAI BY KAYAK since 1977

For years, Island Adventures has introduced visitors and Kama'ainas (residents), to the magic of the Hule'ia River and it's 241 acres of National Wildlife Refuge.

More recently, the owners of this small company set out to improve on what was already known to our visitor industry professionals as one of the very best kayak trips on Kauai.

"We set out in search of an elusive waterfall that existed only in the memories of a handful of long time Kauai locals. Because of the thick jungle growth, an aerial survey of the area was fruitless. This search for a secret waterfall was to send us on a mission, through thick tangled jungle with no cut trails. After several difficult trips into the valley we were rewarded with the sound of rushing waters. Still, dense vegetation made it impossible to get a close look. We could hear it but couldn't see it"

It took two more attempts for the Island Adventures crew of explorers to make their most exciting discovery. After rappelling down a cliff to the river below, the found not one, but two treasures: Jungle Waterfalls, the tallest one was over 50' high.

A whole year and a half later, a trail had been mapped and cut. Now you don't havce to be Tarzan to enjoy this very special place, which has become the main destination of Island Adventures latest tours. "This Ain't No Zipline" and "Hawaiian Dundee".

The training and attention to safety concerns were outstanding. Enjoyed the guides personalities, especially that of Tonya. They put you through verbal instructional training and a practice training on a dirt/rock embankment. When I saw the 60 foot waterfall, I knew rappelling it was doable (even for a 58 year old women). The guides were also near by to coach... More

We had a lot of fun on this tour. The kayaking was reasonably easy, and the guide was helpful with tips. Our guide was Tanya. She had some good information on plant species. The waterfall was beautiful AND you can climb it with ropes, which was a blast. Our group was nice and small. Definitely recommend it!

Went kayaking up a 2.5 mile river adventure. This is a physical trip. You have to paddle yourself so take that into account if you're considering this trip. At the end of our trip, there was a flash flood, so the guides parked us on the beach where it was safe and then towed us across in their little motor... More

This is a great thing to do in Kauai. The guides are excellent, they are patient, you get good training, and I was thoroughly pleased by the entire adventure. I think this is far superior to a zip line (which I've only done once) because you are really in the falls, being active and involved - nothing passive about it.... More

This was an amazing experience - both scary and exhilarating! My husband and I did this with our 16 year old son and our 30 year old niece. The instructors did a great job of giving us some training and then helping throughout the actual rappel. I'm not sure I could have done it without their encouragement. Definitely an activity... this was a well organized and enjoyable physical adventure. My wife and I were in the same kayak and it was very stable in the water. We paddled for 2 and 1/2 miles up the river from Lihue and that was followed by a 1/2 mile hike down to another smaller river and the falls which were beautiful. The trail... More

With neither of us having any rappelling experience, I convinced my wife to go on this adventure. The storefront was easy to find & it was a short trip to the equipment fitting. The crew was very patient with the group & helped everyone get properly fit. Training occurs on a dry wall after plenty of instruction. As the risk... More

This adventure was truly an amazing adrenaline rush! The staff were very knowledgeable and covered each step in great detail, so we felt well prepared before beginning to rappel down the waterfall. Practicing on a dry wall first was very helpful. This adventure is definitely not for the fainthearted or someone afraid of heights. If you like doing outdoor activities... More

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity but it is not for everyone. You need to have some coordination and be physically fit. If you are afraid of heights do not attempt this. The guides are very professional and if you listen to them you will have a great time. You do have to listen or you can get... More

We did the rappelling down the waterfall. We are both in our 50's. It was a blast! The instructors are extremely professional and competent. Their resume's are impressive and put me immediately at ease. After the training on a man made dry wall, there is a short hike to the waterfall. Everyone rappelled down the right and left sides of...
