NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

Opt for the Allerton & McBryde tour. Most beautiful botanical gardens we've every visited, and we've been to many gardens in the US, Canada and Europe.

The Allerton Garden Tour was one of our most favourite activities on the South Shore of Kaua'i. If you have kids this activity is enough of an outing for the entire day. Get there at 9:45am for the 10am tour so you are back in time for lunch- you'll be back by 12:30/1pm but take snacks and water too as... More

The garden is organized into several outdoor "rooms", my favorite was the mermaid room with a lovely water feature and Art Deco sculptures. Guide was very knowledgeable and tailored discussion to our interests.

As a small thank you, I treated the friends I was staying with in Kauai to the Allerton Garden Sunset Tour. I think it may be the best thing I did in Kauai, and my friends thoroughly enjoyed it too. Lauren, our guide, was friendly, patient and never rushed us on. It was such a pretty place, and Lauren explained... More

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Allerton Garden Sunset Tour last week. Initially, we debated about whether it was worth the additional money to do the sunset tour. In retrospect, I highly recommend this. The story of how Allerton Gardens were developed is very interesting historically and the gardens are just beautiful. John, our tour guide, provided a wonderfully rich narrative... More

We looked forward to the Allerton Garden tour (and paid $255 for 5 adults) after having a fabulous visit to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (on Big Island) in 2013. Unfortunately, there was no comparison. First problem: guided tour. Second problem: the tour guide. Third problem: almost nothing that my husband doesn't already grow in Houston. Perhaps it's not fair... More

Truly an incredible garden. Lots of movies filmed here and you will recognize the spots. Great guides. It take around 3 hours total. Allerton is awesome for plant lovers and photographers too. They also have the McBride Garden, skip it as its not worth the price. Stick with Allerton.

We took the combo tour of the ornamental Allerton Gardens and the research gardens of McBryde. Saw only two "rooms" of the Allerton and the rest of the two hours or so was spent in the boring MCBryde. Don't do the combo.
