Okay so this is not the best time to see certain wildlife, but we just lucked into arriving at the opening of the center. For two years it has been closed. The greeting to us expressed the staff’s and volunteer’s excitement of being back in...More

We stopped here with our two toddlers before we had to head out to the airport for our flight home. This place was great for a walk, and the kids loved looking for different animals and bugs. There were some pretty large spiders. The kids...More

We visited Kealia Pond around 7:30a. The area had been flooded so the parking lot was closed, but we quickly found parking on the side of the road. There were only 3 other people there. The boardwalk is easily walkable and the views of the...More

Saw endangered and endemic black-necked stilts (Ae 'O's) and Hawaiian Coots as well as Cattle Egrets, Herons and a variety of shore birds. Backs on to a beach that looks interesting, so parking can be a challenge (only had time to visit last day before...More

This is worth the stop if you are going to or from Lahaina. It isn't a destination trip by any means. We stopped in and walked the area and it was enjoyable. Be aware that this area can be very windy, especially in the afternoons.

Plan on doing a drive by so you know exactly where the parking lot entrance is located. There is no left turn so you can't get to the parking lot coming out of Kihei without turning around. The entrance to the parking lot isn't clearly...More

We were bumped from our AM flight so we hit some places we had not been to yet. Walked the elevated walkway and read about the wetlands eco system. It was very cool and we got some night photos of native birds. Relaxing walk next...More

I went here early one morning to look for Hawaiian birds and was not disappointed. I encountered a few now endangered Hawaiian stilt birds feeding and got some wonderful photographs with their reflections. The best time for bird viewing is in the early morning when...More

This refuge is right beside the highway and gives you a chance to see native habitat and native animals. It is interesting to see how the native land looks next to everything being built up. The long bridge is a nice feature as you can...More

This a wonderful free activity. Go in the morning before it gets too warm. Great bird watching. Parking can be problematic. Take your time.
