The road winds up through forest, ranch land, shrub land, then aeolian (windblown) landscape of volcanic rock. The visitor centers are small, manned but mostly shops plus information if you ask. Restrooms good and open 24/7 even though the visitor center st the entrance closes at 3:45 and the one at the summit at 3:00. The road has the most... More

Haleakala had a cool weather program!!! It was changing very rapidly and the winds were very high!! We couldn't see the sun for the first hour but we waited and then the sun came out and we could see the beautiful crater!!!!!!! We left at 4am from Wailea and got a parking spot 40 minutes early. Very fun and exciting!!!... More

Go and watch the sunrise but pack a sweatshirt because it can be cold up there. A beautiful national park to spend a few hours and see nature. Don't forget to bring your US National Park's Passport Book to get stamped!

It was a raining day so we didn't see the sun, but it's still worth it. The drive to the top is fun and the view was good, though a little foggy. The black rocks make you feel like you are on the moon ;-)

The rates to get into the park are sky rocketing. It's really sad! They say your entrance fee will be good for a week - well that's just silly. No one goes up the volcano more than once per visit. Please, everyone, do complain about this!! By 2017: $20 for a motor cycle and $25 for a car!! Just terrible.

The sunrise is like nothing you've ever seen coming above the clouds. It's an early day but totally worth it! It used to be free but now I think you have to pay a small fee to get in. It's really cold and windy so wear a coat or bring a blanket. Layering is best bc when you get back... More

We went to Haleakala on our first trip to the island - a right of passage for pretty much any visitor it seems. We were staying in the Lahaina area - which meant we had to leave at about 2:30 or 3:00 to arrive in time to see the sun rise. While we were kicking ourselves at the time, there... More

We had read much on the appearance & what to expect. Except it was 10 times better. There are these amazing colors down in this gigantic "valley". I can't imagine hiking this myself but I'll bet it's an extraordinary experience. Very, very windy & cold but we were prepared. We did this at about 10 AM & got excellent photos.... More

If you want to appreciate life better, this is the place to be. Words are not enough to describe how beautiful it is. The staff are very passionate about what they do and are very proud to see this beauty on daily basis.

We get to Maui once, sometimes twice a year. Every trip involves a trip to Haleakala. While I like to walk around the summit, watch the sunrise and take photos, my husband has a 19 mile hike he does every time we are on Maui. The area is beautiful, the drive sometimes takes you above the clouds, the views, when... More
