We went to Maui for our summer holidays and one of the most looked forward to sights was The Haleakala National Park. We had to pack a thick padded jacket to go up to the top and see the sun rise. Saw people with blankets and everything that could keep them warm and it was definitely cold at the top... More

Many wake up super early to make the drive and try to be there for sunrise. I cannot justify that on vacation. Went there for sunset instead and got the same feeling without the exhaustion of getting up at 3 am.You should still get there at least an hour before sunset in order to have a parking place at the... After driving back and forth up the mountain for 2 hours(leaving at 4am)until we reached over 9000 feet, we saw the most unbelievable sunrise ever!!! It was truly a must see incredible experience!! You can't miss this!! And, I'm afraid of heights!!

You left the Kaanapali area and four am and arrived in Haleakala at six am. We had about an hour wait for the sun to rise. The parking lot was almost full by the time we got there. I passed an open coffee shop in Lahaina thinking there would be one closer. There is not. Stop for coffee whenever you... More

this is a must if you're going to visit Maui... but make sure you understand correctly what you can or you can't do... because some rocks you can step on and some you can't ... some places you can go and some don't... and it's all "up to the park ranger" such person will make sure settle in, in a... My wife and I woke up at 2:40am in Lahaina and made our way to the summit of Mount Haleakala, and it was worth the effort and lack of sleep. We got one of the last six parking spots around 5:00 AM, and we waited in the dark until we experienced a beautiful sunrise above the clouds. Bundle up! It's... More

Amazing! I had tears in my eyes watching the sunrise above the mountains and clouds. Cold and windy but well worth the close to two hour trip from Lahaina.

This sunrise is something that should not be missed. Leave early and bring clothes you would wear on a 30 degree day! We left Lahaina at 2:45 a.m. I suggest going the first or second day if you are from the east coast. The early wake up was not hard at all. Arrival was early enough to get a prime... More

There is no comparable sunrise to this one! My 81 year old mother in law stood with tears dripping from her face as she witnessed the beauty of the sun rise lighting up the eastern sky. It is worth the cold early morning trip to be a part of this event.
