My son in law did it on his own, it takes two hours from Lahaina to get there. He followed the trails took lots of great pictures. He loved it.

In terms of facilities, I'm surprised this is considered a National Park. There's one small building at the top of the hill that functions as a museum and park headquarters. It's pretty interesting to watch the weather patterns on top of the hill. The most...More

We arrived at the summit around 9 a.m. (We didn't make reservations for sunrise viewing, 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., which is a requirement.) We were fortunate that the sky was clear and vivid blue at the summit on that day; clouds began moving in...More

Haleakalā is on the “must do” list for a reason; the sunrise was epic, and the ride back down afforded beautiful views as well. Definitely layer; it was 80+ in Lahaina but we were wearing jeans, long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, beanies, gloves and a blanket....More

We enjoyed the sunrise from the top of the mountain. A "must see" for anyone visiting Maui. You will be so glad you did.

We started our drive in sunshine, then rain, then fog, then cloudy & drizzly. The sunset at the top was ok and we thought the weather was going to deter our view but the fireball sun made an appearance for a few minutes before setting...More

I am certain the day my husband and I visited would be 150% perfect and everything fantastic as others told us about were it not for one big unpredictable factor: weather. You can't even predict it after you've been there a week or so. You...More

We were very lucky that our drive up Mt. Haleakala was clear until we hit the summit. That allowed us some phenomenal views on one of the highest points of Hawaii State. The drive from Wailea took about two hours to get to the summit....More

If you like mountains Haleakala is well worth the trip. However, check the weather forecast for the summit before taking the long twisty road to the summit for the sunrise. The National Parks do require a permit access the summit at sunrise. You can get...More

Unfortunately, the day we planned to do this was terrible weather up on the crater. At sea level, it was beautiful, however. Be warned to check the weather up there and you’d probably love it. It was so cloudy, foggy, and rainy it just wasn’t...More

Unfortunately, no. The reservations are booked almost 2 months in advance which is why we opted to view the sunset because we were unsuccessful in acquiring a reservation. Even at sunset there is a phenomenal number of... More

We did the sunrise trip in May of last year and we were staying in Kihei, as well. 1.5 hours sounds about right. It was really twisty and windy up at the top and we had to be incredibly patient with our vehicle as we got up... More
