This hike was an intermediate hike and advanced if you go to the second pillboxes. If you have a fear of height then I suggest only going to the first pillbox. Great views of Lanikai and the valley.

This was our first hike out of four in Hawaii... and it was so worth it. The entrance to the Pillbox hike is within a residential area, so parking is only available on the side streets. Please be respectful and do not make any disruptions. Park responsibly and lower your volume (voice, music). The trail is quite rocky and it... More

We hiked first thing in the morning to catch the sunrise. What an experience! It is a challenging hike for inexperienced hikers like me. I had to take short breaks, but powered through. If it's dry and you don't have proper shoes, you could slide around so be careful.

This is a must do if you come to Kailua. It is not a long hike but you are richly rewarded with stunning views of the mokulua islands. Try to go ad early as you can as the sun rises upon you.

This an easy scenic hike to your vacation plan on Oahu for the breathtaking scenic views of Lanikai beachand Twin island, coast line and mountains. Bring hiking shoes or snickers as this hike involves some easy scrambling. The ridge trail continues beyond two Pillboxes if you have time, enough water and curiosity to explore. Parking for the access the trail... More

After climbing the mile trail to the "lookout area" i cautiously peered out over the lookout barrier to the rocks and surf below. It must have been over a thousand feet. My girlfriends son said, "Let's go up to that last pillbox at the top!" Being scared of heights, I foolishly agreed and followed him. After almost reaching the top,... More

Hike was very challenging at moments, but very makeable, even for novices like me! Multiple trails, so you can pick up an easier route up or down. Lots of loose gravel so wear good shoes! Took about twenty minutes from Mid PAC. A back pack with water would be nice! The view is amazing!

I pushed for my husband and I to do this hike, and I wish we had only gone halfway. It is not only steep the whole way but there are loose rocks, roots, etc. We both run, and I do short-course triathlons so we are not slackers. About halfway up there is a flat clearing that offers great views. The... More

A friend who does this hike regularly swore this would be as easy hike. It probably would have been for most folks. We are a little out of shape but I would say this was not an easy hike. We needed breaks. It was hot (take water!). And there were parts where we had to really climb over rocks on... More

Unfortunately I only made it to the first pillbox because my wife couldn't make it all the way up the trail which is definitely understandable. This trail is short but it is no cakewalk for the inexperienced hiker, while it was definitely fun I recommend planning ahead with adequate water supplies, snacks, sunscreen and a hat. The first part of... More
