Crossing the Land Bridge to Bar Island was a really fun bonus for staying in Bar Harbor. It's a big event and we were sure to check the tides and planned ahead to make sure we had plenty of time to cross and back. We were easily able to meander in the shallow water (there was a dry path as... More

Check the tide times! There is usually about a two hour windows before and after low tide to walk across. It is a very cool thing to witness. We walked down to the entrance at high tide just to see and when we came back the water was gone! We walked across the sand bar to the little island and... More

What a perfect way to explore right in the heart of town! The walk over to Bar Island takes maybe 15 minutes, then another 15-20 to the top. Absolutely the best way to spend a couple of hours in the middle of Bar Harbor. Just check the tide (with your hotel) and aim to be there an hour or two... More

The tide drops so low you can walk to the next island. All the rocks along the bottom make it easy to walk. Did not have much time to spend on Bar Island due to time of day but did get to see the sunset from a different view point.

We were disappointed that we would not get to make the walk due to the fact that low tide coincided with our ship's departure time but we walked over to see and were pleasantly surprised that the land bridge was dry 2 hours before the low tide. It is a very nice walk on a gravelly surface with shells and... More

A nice walk at low tide.  Once on Bar Island, follow the trail to the top, you’ll pass a path going toward the right, stay straight to go to the top for the best views.  On the way down, when you pass the path on the right (will be on your left going down), take it for a short walk... More

Walking across to Bar Island at low tide was a very cool walk. Neat to see all the different sea creatures and shells.

We missed this on our last trip to Bar Harbor and made sure we did it this time. At low tide a land bridge emerges that links Bar Harbor to Bar Island (a part of Acadia National Park). The entrance is at the end of Bridge St. to the west of the dock area. Low tide occurred in the early... More

Bring a flashlight and enjoy the beautiful night sky on dry land in the middle of the bay. We will be talking about this adventure for a long time. We walked to Bar Island in the dark with cell phone flashlight in dress shoes without any problem. Nothing at all to worry about as long as you go during the... More

It totally baffles the mind how this area is under water and appears to be a deep river. Then just six hours later you can take the half mile walk to the island. As you take the walk you will be joined by many rock, shell and artifact seekers along the way. Once you reach the island you will experience... More
