Enjoyed the view from the top. Parking was very limited and competitive. Finally gave up on getting a parking spot and just snapped a couple of quick pictures.

Crowned with Coit Tower, Telegraph Hill offers spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. We were fortunate in that there were not big crowds during our visit. It is a bit of an uphill hike (by road or stairs) but not too strenuous. Tip: make sure that you go on a clear day as the SF... More

It was a pleasant climb, and the views of San Francisco and the Bay were definitely worth it! As a bonus, there is a public rest room at the top. You may ask, “Why is that a big deal?” Well, because it’s one of those super cool automatic cleaning rest rooms; that’s why! But I digress… The hill is pretty... More

We dragged the teenagers up the hill. They loved the views and we enjoyed seeing the actual site from the Parrots of Telegraph Hill movie. We watched the New Years fireworks from a nearby street. Great fun.

Telegraph Hill offers great views of San Francisco. Topped off with Coit Tower, which itself offers even better views, the hill can be ascended on foot for those that are reasonably fit or by car or MUNI bus. The walk itself, assuming you're fit enough, is rather pleasant and can be completed either by road or stairways that run up... More

Weekdays you can drive all the way to the top. Every day you can drive up Union to near the top and there is 2 hour street parking. Even if you don't want to go up Coit Tower, the views up here are amazing.

This is a hefty hill, so be ready for a workout. It's iconic and historic for being the first place in San Francisco with a telegraph line.

That could even be nicer with less trees around. But there are nice spots on golden gate Bridge for sure. The way up is steep, no doubt. After you van take this little path down to the harbor passing by fantastic little houses, narrow stairways, a real nice neighborhood. Wortwhile for those who want to explore the city walking...

Tried to walk up from embarcadero. Didn't realize that Google maps route only measured horizontal distance or that some San Francisco "streets" are the fights of stairs mentioned in other reviews. Since we were on a tight timetable and since my thighs were tight enough we quit partially up. Still wad very interesting and took a zillion photos of how... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
