If you want to wait you can get a cable car up here. But we walked up the steep hill with regular stops to admire the amazing views, and I honestly think we appreciated it more. There is a real mix of old and new houses and views in all directions. Well worth time away from all the tourist hot... More

Hike up Nob Hill! Walk all the way up! Don't wimp out and take a cable car or a taxi. Walk up. It'll take some leg power and your muscles will hurt but it will make the beautiful view all the more worth it! After walking around the neighborhood, go to the Top of the Mark restaurant at the top... More

We walked this area during our SF tour group after a cable car ride to the top of the hill. This was an interesting area with the unique architecture and SF History of their famous beginnings. You had some nice selfie or picture opportunities of the skyline and city from the top of the hill. I would recommend you check... More

Lovely part of the city and we'll worth a visit. Very residential and leafy with beautiful houses and nice parks. Plenty of good eateries, it's a pretty wealthy and stylish part of town. Amazing views of San Francisco Bay and the city itself, the best along with Russian Hill I think. Very very steep climbs to get here unless you... More

Nob Hill is one of the signature locations in San Francisco. Drive, walk (seriously uphill) or take a cable car up there and walk around the neighborhood. Enjoy the architecture, stroll through the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel, have a drink at the Top of the Mark in the Mark Hopkins Hotel, have dinner at one of several great restaurants,... More

You can reach the top by riding the California Street Cable Car or the Sacramento Street bus, or you can get your day's exercise with a strenuous walk. You will be rewarded with a couple of San Francisco's monuments, Grace Cathedral, the Fairmount Hotel (with its gallery of historic photos), and the Mark Hopkins Hotel, with its iconic Top of... Because it’s there! The neighborhood remains a SF landmark, with high-end hotels and restaurants. While few sights remain of the hilltop’s original affluent residents, just stand in front of the James C. Flood Mansion, now home of the Pacific-Union Club, and you will be transported back to the golden age of SF. Nob Hill is accessible by cable car, and... More

I know this area is famous, but it's not that exciting and I found little of interest to do there. Very SF.

Very steep, it's best to reach it by cable car. The California line runs there. Like the name says expect top line hotels including the Fairmont, Grace Cathedral, upscale neighborhood. Nice area to take a stroll, downhill preferably.

Great to walk around but be prepared for some physical exertion since Nob Hill really is hilly. Beautiful views especially on a nice day and lots of iconic San Francisco architecture.

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
