The parks and the homes are beautiful. Be sure to track down Andy Goldsworthy's art sculptures. The views of Golden Gate Bridge are postcard worthy!

We walked from Union Square, through the Presidio, to the Golden Gate Bridge, and back to Union Square via the water front. (30Km). You don't need to do all that, but you should visit the Presidio, which comprises a wooded area of the city, some expensive houses, the old Military base (remember the movie of the same name??), the war... DO NOT MISS THE PRESIDIO!! I'd heard this old (since 1776 under the Spanish) military base was beautiful, but you have no idea how much until you visit the place. The Presidio was a U.S. Army base since the late 1800s and features every type of U.S. military architecture ever used. The lush 1,500 acres and exceptional with their views... More

If you have the stamina to bike it, it's worth it. It's part of the golden gate national recreation area. it's golden gate park. it's a large area in the northwest corner of the city. Large and lots to explore. I've seen coyotes and other interesting wildlife, views of the bay, the city, golden gate bridge, great exercise, bordering on... More

I've always found the Presidio a bit of an oddity, but I guess that what makes it enjoyable. On one hand you've got the majesty of the Golden Gate Bridge, on the other you've got the military aspects exemplified by Fort Point, and mass of green and a mass of houses hidden in the woodland. Really interesting contrasts and some... More

Simply get here early before sunset. Parking is tight. Plenty of walking areas below this iconic view of The Bay. WOW! We got some of the best pics on Day 1 #JustDoit Reminded me of some old Hollywood flicks with Clint Eastwood, lol

Lots of walking trails and unusual Andy Goldsworthy installations make this a terrific place for a visit, with our without a family. Lovely views of the water, and dense eucalyptus groves.

Every time we go to San Francisco, we make sure to walk in the Presidio. There trails are wonderful, and I never tire of all the flowers in bloom (especially since we tend to go in Jan-Feb when it's the dead of winter on the East coast).
