On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars. "Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious political and pop-culture characters including Donald and Melania Trump, Adele, Hillary & Bill Clinton, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, President Barack & Michelle Obama, Hamilton, Bernie Sanders, Sia, Taylor Swift, Vladimir Putin, Chris Christie, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Orange is the New Black, Empire's Cookie, Oprah and the San Francisco Giants

Words can't describe how hilarious & enjoyable the Beach Blanket Babylon was - the puns, the music, the costumes! Laughed & laughed and laughed! We purchased the $25 rear balcony seats and still had a great view! You do need to be up on your current events (political, celebrities) and enjoy good music to get the innuendoes and double-entendres.

This is the third time I've seen the show and it's great every time. It's always being updated to reflect current events. The actors are all Uber excellent, the band really kicks it and the sound system assures that you don't miss a word. I have only two complaints and they are for the producers. 1) The sound is LOUD!!!... More

A great night out very colourful with some great singing. Some of it does not make much sense but in part is very funny with some outrageous well thought out costumes

I love San Francisco and have visited many main attractions in my travels to NoCal, along with lesser known sites. My husband and I decided to see this show as part of my 40th birthday celebration based on the strong TA reviews. It wasn't worth the money and time spent. We love campy, satirical, silly, edgy humor, but this show... More

I haven't been to a performance since the late 90's and it lived up to my expectations. I brought my husband and two teenage daughters to a Sunday matinee and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Fast paced and lots of fun, definitely a great option for teens in the city.

A good, funny show if you like satire and seeing political figures and celebs taken thru the hoop - I liked the sketches on Bill Cosby and also Putin, though the Trump family one was surprisingly bland ..... it seems to have lost its edge slightly

I went to this show based on a recommendation of a friend who lived in SF and I'm glad I did. It was fun...just not as hilarious as I had heard. It did drag on at times for me but was entertaining for the most part. Although it is political satire, it doesn't lean too far in either direction so... More

Thank you for your honest review of the show. We're glad you had a fun evening. There are service fees associated with ticket sales, just like any other ticketing service. We are proud to be able to keep these fees so low, especially compared to other theater shows and the fees they charge. More

A wonderful farcical cabaret with contemporary character comedy in the form of wondrous costumes, persona-related song snippets and humor and oh so wonderful hair and enormous headgear. With a great band and housed in a small theatre giving one an intimate relationship with the entire performance. What a hoot. The finale included ginormous hats, one being 10 feet wide and... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
