On the Architecture Tour

Just a block from Union Square is this art deco masterpiece. Besides the lobby, you need to see it from a few blocks away in order to admire the majesty. Dentists offices.

This is one Art Deco building that is best appreciated from inside. The Mayan-themed lobby with its marble walls and bronze ceiling is as intricate and as beautiful as any I have ever seen (and I've seen quite a few). Thankfully, on my visit the building's security had no problem with my taking pictures, as long as I didn't use... More

The 450 Sutter Building is a massive concrete building and unless you ventured inside you would think it’s just another tall office tower building in the downtown area. Walk through these doors to truly admire all of the intricately carved Mayan figures on the ceilings and walls. The walls are marble, the floors are not that eye catching but the... More

This is one of my favorite San Francisco buildings, because of its history and architecture. Built in 1929, the 26-floor structure was the first West Coast skyscraper designed to withstand an earthquake. Its architect -- Timothy Pflueger -- was inspired by the ancient Mayan culture for the design. The Art Deco facade displays terra cotta that was restored between 2007... More

This tower is used as a medical offices but is famous for its Neo-Mayan Art Deco style. The building was designed Timothy L Pflueger and has an imposing exterior.

If you are a fan of Art Deco buildings, this would be an interesting stop for you (and you would probably rate it higher than "3"). If you have a general interest in different types of buildings, do drop by if you have the time...the lobby and exterior are worth the quick look. 450 Sutter is a 26-floor, 105 m... More

Folks who admire great design and high style will enjoy the lobby of this building. With its gun metal grey and golden hiroglyphs it looks like The Matrix crossed with a Mayan temple. An outstanding piece of Art Deco design that's featured in many architecture books. This is a working medical building, so if you stop by the lobby during... More
