I had no idea. I expected a stuffy "rah rah US!" and instead walked into a world-class museum. Schedule at least 3 hours.

If you visit the Legion of Honor and the DeYoung on the same day, you can get free admission/discount admission to one of them. Both are free on the first Tuesdays of the month. The space is a little piece of the Louvre in San Francisco - majestic design and great exhibits. The cafe is tourist food - pretty, but... More

We had no idea what to expect and so were wonderfully surprised at this great location - easily accessed by bus - and some lovely art. The cafe - with children - was friendly and neat. Well worth a couple of hours on a quiet day. Views across to the bridge were a bit limited by poor weather.

A must see in SF. Great masters at display. Sometimes wthere are smaller exhibition of high quality. I especially enjoyed the small gallery for etchings and lithographs. Volunteers explained the process and different styles. Great service.

Honestly this place reminded me very much of a much smaller Louvre. Not a surprise given that it was a gift from France. Awesome setting away from busy downtown. Fantastic building and artworks.

Thanks to the Speckles Family, this gem of a museum has one of the best Rodin collections, including "the Thinker". The collection of art is really incredible. The view from the palace is also incredible.

Every time I go to this museum I am delighted. The location is spectacular and there is never a feeling of being crowded. Two current exhibits filled two and a half hours: Rodin and Mummies and Medicine. Very clearly signed with information that easily added to my knowledge base. Not in the most convenient location it is well worth the... More

We went to the Legion of Honor primarily to see the Rodin exhibit, but were also fascinated by the ones on mummies and art books. The main collection, while not huge, has some gems, and is well laid out. The building itself is gorgeous, parking is ample (and free), and the views of the bay and Golden Gate bridge just... More

Out of the way but gorgeous museum with classic art. Everything is lovely and elegant. Not quite world-class like museums in NYC, Boston or Chicago but definitely worth the visit. About two dozen rooms. Figure about two hours.
