We were on a few hours in the centre of San Francisco when we were drawn in to a shop by the dazzling Xmas decorations! Amazing selection. We loved the British themed selection. Chatting to the security guard whilst waiting for my friend to pay. He said do you know Gumps it's a very old famous store. As well as... More

When most of the other retail places have been bought up by the big guys, this local legendary retailer is still going strong. With its upscale high end gifts, clothes and furniture, this is the place to go to find something unique.

somewhat disappointed in my visit (finally!) to San Francisco and Gump's. The store was smaller than I expected with large jewelry, silver and china departments that don't figure much in the catalogs I've received. I have several small items from Gump's-each a delight--but will have to continue online shopping with them.

Service, quality, and style - if you are looking for that special gift or unique momento from San Francisco this is the place to buy it. This store is the top of the line in jewelry, clothes, furniture and home accessories. It is EXPENSIVE- but the items are exquisite. Over the years I have purchased candles, hand soaps and throws... Gump's offers on-line clothing and household linens and other items. They also have local stores but none in my area (Michigan.) Their selection of products is interesting and mainly classic. They are a nice option to find something a little different. Customer service is great. One issue - normal shipping charges are quite high. Look for reduced or free shipping... More

I have loved Gump's for decades. Back when I only knew it from the catalog. Having been to the store a few times now, it is even more fabulous. It can be very expensive but you can also find cute little things for reasonable prices. Very helpful employees and it's just beautiful. Most recently, I bought a gift card to... More

I felt in love with this shop. Everything is so beautiful and not very expensive (as I would have expected in a store in France). You can find anything from clothes for women to candles to asian furniture. It is very chic.

I was looking for something I could afford but came away with a few photos instead. This store is a feast of a different kind.

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
