We just wanted light snacks, so we ordered one of their pizza's, cheese plate, charcuterie plate, and warm olives. Everything was really good, no complaints - we got the Caprese Insalata pizza, which was unique, and good. We waited for some time to get our orders taken, the one waiter said, just a minute! Then later we saw him in... More

Stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon. Good selection of wines by the glass. Many interesting choices. Glasses start around $6 each, there is a separate page of more unusual or better selections that go for around $12 a glass. Very fair prices. Also have a nice selection of personal pizzas for less than $10, and other tapas like dishes.... More

My best friend and I had just finished a tour of Coit Tower and were looking for a place to sit outside, have a glass wine, and enjoy the sunny afternoon when we came across Dell'Uva. There's several tables outside to sit at as well as a bar along the front windows (which open). We chose a table outside and... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
