For those of you actually expecting a park, you will be sorely disappointed. This is a tiny landing that fits maybe 7 people at the most. It is at the top of a staircase that is in between residential homes. The entrance is kind of hidden so you could very well miss it if you are not paying attention. The... More

This feels like you are walking through a private staircase in a back yard. There is a sign identifying the steps on the Street. It is well worth the trek up. There is a tiny little patio with two stone benches. I stood on the bench seat for a better view over some foliage. You can see the Bay Bridge... More

I felt like I was walking up a private staircase surrounded by foliage galore! The views are stunning of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. It's located in Telegraph Hill and can easily be missed.

I wanted to visit this "park" after reading about it, so I dragged my family with me. I thought it was great; my teenage children and husband didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did. After climbing many steps, we reached the tiny little concrete patio "park" with 2 little benches. There was a great view of the Golden... More

This place is The BOMB!!! I was so looking forward to finding it and checking it out, and it was actually even better than I thought! This is the city's smaller park and it is located in the Russian Hills on Grant Avenue, beween Chestnut and Francisco. It's actually hard to miss, so if you're looking for it, you''ll definitely... View is amazing. Surrounded by beautiful houses. You can see golden gate bridge and Alcatraz. Seats just enough for two. We've been here for about half hour with no other tourists coming. Absolute hidden gem!

Nice views, but nothing spectacular. I would not detour to climb the steps up to this park, when you have Pioneer Park two blocks away, and Telegraph Hill (10 minute walk) nearby. So, the park is a small park on Grant (west side of the block), near Chestnut; you can almost miss it if you blink. From Grant you start... More

Thos is a tiny park that appears to be open from early morning until sunset. It's literally a long staircase with a little bench at the top of a steep hill. Someof the trees have overgrown and the view is a little obstructed, but we could see Alcatraz, Ghiradelli Square, and the bay. Very quiet and in between $20 million... More

It is a park with a small p. The bench is large enough for two. The view is of the marina and Pier 39. The panorama is somewhat obstructed with rooftops and trees. It may lack the visual punch of other hilltop lookout but makes it up in intimacy and silence. Located east of Grant, between Chestnut and Francisco. Some... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
