What a great experience and public art at it's best. Never knew this existed and then took an afternoon tour of the Mission District and our guide took us by and explained the history and even the reverence that is held for this place. Well worth the visit and look not only at the front of the building but also... More

I love the murals on the Women's Building! They are so intricate and colorful. I also like that names of women of substance are part of the murals. It's not just lovely art here, but also a history lesson. I did go inside, but there's not much to see there if one is not participating in a program. There are... More

There are many great murals in SF, and especially in the Mission District, and this is certainly one of them.

I visited the Women’s Building to check out the murals on the afternoon of July 28th, my first day of seven in San Francisco. The Women’s Building was located on 18th Street between Valencia and Guerrero Streets, in the Mission District. It is a non-profit community centre that advocates for social justice and gender equality and offers resources and a... More

Pretty spectacular and close to other murals you might go see, like Balmy Alley. Also, it has a bathroom, but don't just gawk and pee, give them some money!

Whilst they are not necessarily to my taste, the murals on the Women's Building are very striking and convey an artistic statement about the contribution of women to history and the making of history by women from all parts of the world. It was painted in the 1990s by seven women artists. The Women's Building is a women led community... More

Beautiful, colorful, inspiring women presented in larger than life murals. The trees and power lines block a bit of the view so photos are tough to get. A must see!

This beautiful building should be on every must-see list when visiting SF. The murals are breathtaking. Grab a burrito or a cup of coffee and walk around the Mission to visit the large collection of murals in the neighborhood.

I'm surprised this is not rated higher! What a beautiful building in The Mission neighborhood. We looked at it as a part of the Wild SF Walking Tour (which, by the way, I highly recommend, especially if you are not a person to normally go on tours). There is lots of murals in the neighborhood in general, but this is... More

Maybe there is some history to this mural that I don't understand? I feel that is almost certainly the case. To me it was just a nice painting on an otherwise uninspiring building. I took a snapshot and moved on.

Neighbourhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighbourhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in the country.
