You can walk to this easily from the town. It is steep and rocky but not too bad. It is worth the view.

If you like historical places and are able to go up uneven steep steps, you will enjoy this rock. We had a tour guide from the National Park Service telling us the history.

This spot was visited by Thomas Jefferson himself, who considered it a very scenic spot. It's not a hard hike at all and most of it is steps with a railing and is only minutes from Harper's Ferry State Park. Large rocks surround the rock itself and are perfect for sitting or standing and chilling. The actual rock is unstable and people are advised to not climb on it. While the view was decent the area in front of it is very overgrown. The river is visible to the left and right but not in front of you.

A steep but manageable hike for a great view of the river below. Information signs along the route for several buildings.

After a short brief climb, you get a wonderful view of the Shenandoah River and can understand why Thomas Jefferson loved this spot. If you stop in Harpers Ferry, it would be a shame to not take advantage of this view.
