This vintage wax museum opened in 1963 and has hosted thousands of visitors in its many years of operation. Mr. Dorfman, the artist of the realistic hand-made figures, is the very same gifted man who also crafted the figures for Gettysburg. The John Brown Wax Museum is perfect for small groups or large school field trips. It truly does make history "come alive." The museum is seasonal, opening for weekends in March but in April through November, it stays open 7 days a week. Spring and fall hours are 9:00 until 4:30 and summer hours are 10:00 until 5:30. For countless generations, this has been a "must do" activity.

So, we were walking by and my son wanted to go in. For $7, why not? I learned more about John Brown than I'd known before and he thought it was cool. It was, however, not cool in any literal sense. While I'm sure the...More

I love wax museums. I think they do a wonderful job of bringing history alive. This one seems older but I find that quaint. The staff member was very friendly and helpful. We seemed to be the only ones in the museum the whole time....More

The museum was very informative. I'd been to Harper's Ferry many times but had never attended this site. It's musty smelling and had a lot of steps. It has buttons to push for information that are antiquated but it was well worth the money to...More

Ok. It's a wax museum, with figures that move in some scenes. It conveys a lot of history about John Brown which is great! Down side is the various hallways look like scenes from the Shining and it was dimly lit everywhere which creeped out...More

We were in Harper's Ferry on a cold rainy April afternoon. We went into the museum as we were trying to find some indoor things to do. The place lady at the desk was very welcoming. The museum is very dated, but tells the interesting...More

I loved this quaint and quirky wax museum. I disagree completely that this museum needs updating. The old and dark wood adds to the charm. I loved how Harpers Ferry makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. If this museum were modernized...More

I enjoyed this museum but can't say it's a must see stop (particularly for the price". It's a series of scenes from John Brown's life as it relates to his abolition activities. The wax figures are realistic and there is some interesting information that's not...More

the building was built in the late 50s early 60s for the museum purpose, it is not ada by any means and has many stairs.
