This is unlike any other national park I've been to in that it has a town and a beautiful long bridge you walk across, and a train going across the park it that leads into a tunnel cave. Really just the perfect picture of West Virginia if you ever wanted to picture it in your head. This is exactly what... More

Harpers Ferry is a fascinating experience, offering natural beauty combined with history pivotal in the story of our nation. The lovingly restored and curated buildings give a sense of what pre and post Civil War life was like for the town's citizens and highlight important historic events like abolitionist John Brown's raid and explorer Merriweather Lewis' preparations for the Lewis... We parked up at the free parking area towards the town itself and made the hike to Maryland Heights which was about 3.5 miles each way. The view once there was amazing and definitely worth it as the scenery was epic. Parking in the town is extremely limited!! Parking just before the town can hold around 30-40 cars but you... More

Good views, interesting history. It's a small place but can be enjoyed for what it is. There are a number of historical sights in old Harpers Ferry.

Harper's Ferry is absolutely worth a visit even if just to gawk at the amazing scenery all around you. The museums and exhibits are OK, worth a day. After a day you'd be hard pressed to find anything of interest unless you are a hiker and want to tackle the Appalachian Trial which passes through the town. Be aware that... More

History of great men run through here. Early rifle history, transportation, anti-slavery issue... how-why a civil war. This is terriffic for anyone ~7th grade to 80. You could spend at least half a day. BE SURE TO HEAR THE 2PM RANGER TALK.

I'd rate this 5 stars but for access issues and paucity of really good dining options...though the ice cream options are yummy. Great historical site with plenty to see and touch. Plentiful and well done interpretive events and features. As a plus, you can walk out over the Potomac river on a pedestrian bridge and claim to have walked part... More

This place is amazing! The stone work and the architecture are worth the trip. The rail bridge is a must to cross. You can feel you are walking through history while you are here. It is definitely worth the $10 fee to enter the state park and take the shuttle down into the town.
