We were the only visitors. It was very cool to take our time and see all of the sights. But because it was close to closing time there was only 1 costumed person left.

This fort was an important stop on the Santa Fe trail. It was not an army fort but instead a trading post. We visited on a quiet day when there were few visitors and just a few costumed interpreters. The fort is larger than it...More

One of the best living history exhibits I've seen. There was a lot of activity the weekend we visited, with costumed volunteers, exhibits on food preparation, a black smith at work, and a military encampment. There is a short, 20-minute film that tells the story...More

This is a great stop. The fort is very nicely done, with displays in every room to give you an idea of what life was like there. There is a lot to explore, including climbing to the upper level. The booklet for the self guided...More

Walking, Talking and Living history of the past brought into the present. A wonderful place to come and learn about the Santa Fe Trail, fur trading and just understanding how life was in 1840's. A must visit for young and old!

They have everything you will ever need to learn about living in the west all those many years ago. It is a stopping place on the Santa Fe Trail. If you are interested in Western history or living history. This is a must stop!

The old fort was a very fun find. I usually don't go for this sort of historical stops. Was very interesting and we spent quite a bit of time looking around. They had all the rooms set to this period in time and we enjoyed...More

We brought our five children to the Old Fort, and were pleasantly surprised by how kid-friendly it was. Almost everything is hands on (and that which is not is roped off and not too tempting), and easily navigable. We spent two leisurely hours, and could...More
