I have always wanted to see the Rio Grande and when I got there it was depressing. I was only able to see a small section that had water. Hopefully I can go back when it is not dried up.

If you're at Big Bend at all, it would be hard to not include the Rio Grande in your trip. There are multiple places to see it. We stopped at the Boquillas Canyon Overlook and went down on a small trail to reach the river....More

This river isn't very wide, but it managed to cut through rock to make canyons. You can see it best at the nature trail at Rio Grande Village, Boquillas Canyon & Santa Elena Canyon. Skip the Rio Grande Overlook after the tunnel to Rio Grande...More

After watching so many Westerns growing up and reading books about this river, it was great to be where I had pictured for so many years. The river has a quiet serenity to it and Mexico is literally a stone's throw away!

You can get down to the Rio Grande in multiple places in Big Bend. We visited it at Santa Elena and the Rio Grande village areas. In both cases, in April, the river was pretty narrow and slow moving. It is quite pretty. We liked...More

Mark Flippo, a former BBNP ranger you can reach at birdingbigbend.net, is a great birder and a great guide. He can find birds, even in adverse conditions, and he's very pleasant to be with. Best, he's a good teacher--he can explain how to differentiate similar...More

I thought it would be much wilder, but overall it was a treat to hike alongside the river and into the canyons.

This is a great place to visit. It has multiple areas around the park to visit. We enjoyed it most at the Santa Elena canyon. The whole area along the river is lush and green and you can see the distinct difference from the rest...More

We drove to the point where the rio grande borders with Mexico. It was cool to be there, but the water is pretty brown, so not so pretty for me.

Fascinating part of the world describes the remote Big Bend area and its views of the Rio Grande. If you want more, take a drive through the state park as well.
