Stayed in spot 11

SO our spot was #11, located by the bathrooms, and since we went in winter is wasn't too bad that our only shade was a small tree So it could use more shade. The ground was even... read more

Best thing about Rio Grande Village was the access to the trail over by the tent campground. Think it was maybe around 2 mile nature trail but you climbed up to get a really good view of the river and the town of Boquillas in Mexico. There is a border crossing at Boquillas via boat; need a passport. I am... More

SO our spot was #11, located by the bathrooms, and since we went in winter is wasn't too bad that our only shade was a small tree So it could use more shade. The ground was even for our tent and no large rocks poking through either, always a plus. The grounds were clean and I like that they have... More

We came to RGV because we could not reserve a campsite in Chisos Basin (although we found a first come first serve spot there the next day. It was clear afterwards why Chisos is in much greater demand). RGV does, however, have the most reservable campsites. If tent camping in big bend, go to Chisos or Cottonwood. For RVs, RGV... More

The Rio Grande Village campground had all you really need for tent camping. Clean bathrooms, a camp store (with a gas pump), showers and a bit of grass to pitch your tent. It is located near the Hot Springs and Boquillas Crossing and Canyon. I give the campgrounds a 4 star rating even though it is really more suited for... More

There is not much at Rio Grande Village other than an RV campground, the only one with hook-ups in the park, another campground without hook-ups, a nature trail good for birding, a very small visitor center with limited hours, and a one remaining adobe building from the Daniels Ranch; however, there are a number of places with good views of... Spend a week this past March at Big Bend and camped at Rio Grande Village for most of the stay...even though the weather was cooler than "normal" with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s, it was a near perfect experience.

The fellows that run the RV campground and store are very kind, patient, and helpful -- on phone and in person. The store is well stocked with things a camper may need. The RV park is just a dirt parking lot, but it has full hookups. However the sewer connections were different from the usual type -- you cannot screw... More

they have a visitors center/store. the visitors centers may not be open, but you can get your national parks passport stamped at the store. this is a small place, there are numerous trails, but we only went to a scenic overlook. need better signage. it starts across from camp site 18, but you have to park at the restrooms.it was... The visitor center has the park movie, which is interesting. The campground doesn't seem to have a tremendous amount of shaded areas, and it seems a bit crowded. The irrigation diversion system from the river is interesting - though low areas may get flooded. It's good for birding. The visitor center volunteer was very helpful and sang especially concerned with... More

Tent camping looked pretty good, however, RV camping was a whole different ballgame. All the RV spots are in a paved lot and are very close together, like sardines in a can. In fact, putting your awning out may not leave much room for your neighbor to put out his slide.... at least not with a whole lot of clearance.... More
