Overview
More
Founded in 1990, Blue Spiral 1 presents work by exceptional artists in an awe-inspiring space. The light-filled 15,000 square-foot gallery spans three floors connected by an open stairway. Blue Spiral 1 presents over twenty annual exhibitions of sculpture, paintings, studio craft, and photography. They are either discipline based or developed around themes. The gallery's upper level features a diverse collection of works by nearly 100 regularly represented artists. The gallery also has had the privilege of representing the estate of Will Henry Stevens (1881-1949) for thirty years. A pioneer in modernism in the American South, Stevens, "should be on everyone's list of the top 10-15 underrated artists in America in the first part of the 20th Century." -David Houston, Director of Curatorial, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (previous)

This beautiful gallery is large with diverse artworks of very talented artists. We visited almost every gallery involved in the River Arts District and many were really nice. This gallery was the best.

Thanks for stopping in and leaving us a review! We've slowly been incorporating more diversity in artists outside the Southeast and look forward to some excited new exhibitions this year! We hope to see you on your next trip!

It is like an art museum with price tags. Very large gallery with works from all kinds of artists. My husband commented it would be worth visiting even if they charged admission.

What a great compliment! Funny enough we have folks often ask what it costs to get in! It is our goal to make all of our visitors feel welcome and comfortable, regardless of their wallet. We are so happy you enjoy walking through our space.

I'm an art lover (originally from NYC where I studied visual art)... while the tiny, temporarily housed Asheville Art Museum had little on display the day I visited, the nice woman at the desk recommended I walk a few blocks to visit Blue Spiral. Friendly...More

I spent much more time than anticipated in the Blue Spiral gallery - there are three floors of artistic offerings in many diverse media. It's a lovely, pleasant space with art beautifully displayed. Highly recommended!

It is free! All of the art shops are free except for the Asheville Art Museum which I think is around 10 dollars. You should also go to New Morning Gallery in Biltmore village if you have the time. It is a little less... More
