The emphasis of this small museum is minerals, and you sure learn a lot about North Carolina's mineral resources. Another section is interactive, geared toward kids, mainly about dinosaurs. There is an electronic display about exoplanets that looked interesting, though I didn't get to use...More

We visited the museum during their "soft opening". It was a great place to spend a few rainy hours with a 5 year old. The manager was very pleasant and helpful.

We were staying outside of Asheville, and decided to check out the museum. We found some nearby public parking, and walked there. We were greeted, and since we're members of a science center in our area we got in for free. The museum is very...More

Fun activities! Loved the geology scavenger hunt and the hurricane simulator. Lots of cool exhibits for kids. They're still opening, but it was fun to go in and explore. Very friendly and helpful staff. We'll be back and hope to see more of this museum!

This museum is still evolving but it is cute for a short visit- heavy on rocks and minerals right now- it is right downtown and a nice diversion if walking around with younger kids.

Still under construction, mainly what is there came from the Coburn Museum which is primarily rocks and gems. Doesn't take long to look at what they have unless you have small children who are interested in the tables of rocks which can be sorted and...More
