It’s a historical monument in the center of the city. It is nice looking and there is some sitting right near. It is also close to the downtown art district!

My husband and I were in downtown Asheville and saw this monument. When we got home, I wanted to look up the significance of the Vance monument. He was a former governor of NC and Confederate General. He is buried at Riverside Cemetery. He died...More

I think the fact that this is on a list of things to do in Asheville is a bit silly. If you’re in town and passing by, I guess you could check this out, but don’t go out of your way.

This monument is in the center of Downtown Asheville. It is a simple obelisk and is hard to access in the traffic. It commemorates author, politician, and Confederate General Zebulon Baird Vance.

A simple confederate monument, nothing too fancy. Worth a visit if in the area but don't go out of your way to see.

Places like the Vance Moment are challenging to "review" particularly in light of today's events and the history of slavery in the United States. As an obelisk, the monument structure is noteworthy, interesting and modeled after Eqyptian obelisks and the most famous U. S. obelisk,...More

Nice historical monument, in a very happening square. The monument isn't something I would make a trip for in itself but if your visiting Asheville, check it out along with the square. Lots of colorful people and events.

Vance May Be the Southern Lesson from the Confederacy monuments. He was twice elected governor on an anti-succession platform. Jefferson Davis hated Vance, and the feeling was mutual. He was saddened by the loss of NC citizens in the civil war, and never prosecuted deserters...More

Cool to see, if youre in downtown you can't miss it, but I would not call it an attraction. There is a fountain behind it and it's one block from the courthouse park where they have "splashville"

Make sure if your in the area, walk past this monument, just so you can say you saw and read it. Always like reading about history when in different areas. Was difficult to find some parking as we were trying to go to the general...More
