This is a beautiful cemetery with many trees and rolling hills, a pleasant place to visit when in Asheville! Just be sure to visit during the day as it closes early, even to pedestrian only traffic.

We learned about the cemetery by accident after visiting the Thomas Wolfe Memorial. Our tour guide mentioned that the Wolfe family and other notables (namely O. Henry and Governor Vance) are interred here and a short drive from the memorial. Armed with a brochure, we...More

Beautiful, well kept grounds. Lots of walking trails and narrow asphalt paths. Populated by some historically significant persons. Unique and memorable mausoleums and monuments. As far as cemeteries go, this one checks all of the boxes.

There was a handy, informative guide/map at the front gate. From there I walked to the graves of photographer George Masa, artist Kenneth Noland, O’Henry and Thomas Wolfe. Also visited another headstone that stated ‘Killed by a desperado’. Well kept grounds, quiet, nice trees.

We love visiting cemeteries when we are traveling because they contain history of the area. This is a lovely one to visit even if you only have time to drive through.

Spent the Christmas holiday in Asheville and, as a cemetery-loving family, we were drawn to Riverside. The cemetery offers a walking self-guided tour map that can be picked up at the entrance. While the design makes it a little hard to sort out, we were...More
