Being two elderly Southerners both from different states and both from more country than urban areas we seek out local "hole in the wall" bars and pubs to whet our whistles! Our first top was OK and we enjoyed to surroundings but the next day we walked by The black Rose and were totally taken aback! I remarked to my... More

We like this bar for the music seven days a week, and breakfasts were only on weekends in the summer. It was a nice surprise to see that breakfasts had become a daily event. The pub is always busy, food is plentiful and affordable. Staff have always been courteous.

The drinks are way overpriced! Guinness pints are $8....outlandish!!!The food is mediocre at best. So many other better choices nearby. This place is clearly out to gauge tourists !!

We went to the Black Rose after dinner for some some traditional Irish music. The place was packed but we found a table and enjoyed our drinks and the show. The cover was only $5 so not expensive entertainment.

We had a typical Irish breakfast here. The breakfast was good but service slow and toast cold. The tea was also good but had to ask for milk(No half and half with tea). We were a little disappointed especially with the waitress being Irish herself.

Great Irish pub. Not sure the name of the band that we heard, but they were very good. The bar service was fast and efficient. Very crowded. We did not eat.

I'm sure it is a great place but one of the first things you look for is a friendly server, someone who is attentive and kind, happy that you're there. That didn't happen. She did what she was suppose to do, I guess...got us drinks...brought us food, but that was about the extent of it. Excellent clam chowder, very thick... More

This is an average pub with average pub fare that can be found in so many cities nowadays. So is there something unique? Well they offer live music appearances and they surely elevate the atmosphere. We had burgers fries and beer which good but not exceptional. Service was ok but they were overwhelmed by the number of visitors and time... More

This place is so much fun and really made me miss the North East! I moved south 20 years ago and we no longer have places like this that I can go to! The people, the drinks and the music was really a lot of fun!

This is a nice Irish Pub with good Irish Pub Food. We started with an appetizer of sausage rolls and they were very good. My wife had the fish and chips. It was excellent. There were two large pieces of fish that was very lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. This was one of the better fish and chips that we... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
