We live in San Diego County, up in the mountains, so we enjoy mid-week getaways several times a year and Shelter Island/Harbor Island are our favorites. There are several reasonable and nice hotels, beautiful walking paths, views of bays and harbors, the skyline of San Diego is amazing! Great restaurants too. If we want to skip the restaurant scene, Liberty... More

One of my favorite daily activities is to walk around Shelter Is. early in the morning before it wakes up to the bustle of the shipyards, yacht clubs (5), and tourists. At the tip near the Coast Guard station you can catch a glimpse of the Osprey couple nesting atop a pole. Along the shoreline you'll see a public fishing... More

The day after our arrival in San Diego was the Parade of Lights. An annual event where boating enthusiasts decorate their boats, generally with a Christmas, theme and sail in procession adorned with lights around the harbour early evening. Harbour and Shelter Harbour both provide viewing opportunities. During the day they provide for a pleasant walk along the harbour front,... More

It's basically a marina for yachts and speedboats. There isn't much to see at the Harbor and Shelter islands. There is really no big deal about it. At least not in December.

Ending our vacation in California allways takes place on Shelter Island. I love the Maratime atmosphere and the cosyness here. You might wanna dine a the Brigatine, a very nice Sportsbar and Grill or just walk along the Island. It is closeby the Airport which is nice as a tourist.

Just a stretch away.. Walk the Littoral.. View some yachts.. Catch the drift.. Ride the waves.. Spend some silence with the sea..

It is a cool place to take a walk in San Diego; from this side on the bay, you have a good look on SAN downtown and its skyline. There are few sculptures on the walkway. The up and down takes about 1 hour.

We stopped here for a short stroll and walked out on the fishing pier. We were lucky to see an aircraft carrier coming into port. There was plenty of parking and no crowds.
