We stopped in for an hour and enjoyed this welcoming State Museum in Old Town. You can only shop in so many of the tourist shops. Stop here to read some facts about historical carriages and western gear. It costs nothing which is unusual. Kids will enjoy this place just past the donkey exhibit.

This huge horse stable building used as horse carriage museum. The exhibits are so interesting for all ages to enjoy how the people in the past came to SanDiego from the East and other areas of US. On the second floor, the exhibitions devoted to Native American Indian handicrafts in this area. Importantly, it's free admission.

At first I didn't think I would enjoy stopping at Steeley stables but I really did enjoy seeing all the different carriages and reading up on some of the history of the place. While I did not stay long, I did stay long enough to enjoy some of the exhibits and take a few pictures.

If you are in Old Town, this is a must see. The stable is filled with historical artifacts and provides insight into the lives of the early inhabitants. The wagons and carriages were impressive. The museum is free.

This is one of the better museums in Old Town. It is also one of the larger ones. They have a great collection of wagons, coaches and a lot of western artifacts. It is spread over two floors. I did not watch it, but they also have a movie presentation. This is definitely a must see if you are in... More

What an amazing collection from days of old. It's free but do take donations if you choose to. Lots of displays, coaches, pictures and historical items of interest. Well done!

The Seeley Stables is one of the several historic buildings / museums in San Diego Old Town. Within are carriages and tack from those days when horses where the main means of transportation. The space is two stories, the second being open in the center to the first floor. I arrived about ten minutes before closing so had to rush... More

I didn't plan to do this, but I had an extra hour in Old Town and just walked in. Admission was free, but donations are welcome! It was just a small museum with stagecoaches and stories about the wild west. It wouldn't have been something I thought I would have liked but it was just the perfect touch, beautifully presented.... This is not one of your up front, dynamic museums. It is on the site of the original stables of a transportation company set up in the 1850s. A lot of the exhibits are apparently quite rare:an old ox drawn carreta (small freight wagon) from the Spanish period, bigger freight wagons and the usual stagecoach. There are photos of mule... A very interesting free museum in Old San Diego. Very informative with quite a bit to see all kind of wagons, coaches and means of transportation from the 19th century. I also really liked the saddles etc exhibits on the 2nd floor.

Thank Pomerols
